The
Federal Ministry of Environment has warned of flooding which will be caused by
heavy downpour predicted to start between now and Aug. 19.
The Deputy Director, Erosion, Flood and
Coastal Zone Management Department of the Ministry of Environment, Dr. Oyeleke
announced this in a release on Saturday. He said that up to 14 states might be
affected if necessary precautionary measures were not taken.
She identified areas that could be affected
include communities in Adamawa, Plateau, Sokoto, Jigawa, Gombe, Kebbi, Yobe,
Taraba, Zamfara, Borno, Kano, Katsina and Oyo.
The deputy director called on the government
of these states to take necessary steps to avoid loss of lives and property.
