TRUCK CRUSHES 15 BUS PASSENGERS IN ONITSHA SOUTH-EAST NIGERIA

About than 15 persons were crushed to death in the early hours of Thursday at the foot of Niger Bridge in the commercial city of Onitsha, when a truck loaded with two 40-feet containers lost control and fell on some busses.

According to eyewitnesses, the multiple accidents occurred when some persons allegedly collecting emblem fees for the Anambra State government attempted to forcefully stop the truck which was coming from the Asaba end of the Bridge. The truck with registration number XM 858 MUS lost control and ran into other oncoming vehicles.

The accident involved seven other vehicles, four of which were commercial buses and three private vehicles leaving Onitsha for Asaba when the incident occurred.

Mrs. Rose Iwuno, one of the survivors of the mangled buses said the accident would have been avoided, if the tax collectors had not accosted the truck driver.
