It was gathered that the deceased told the collectors that he had only N1, 000 denominations with him and offered it to one of the collectors who asked him to come back for his balance. Eze was said to have agreed but was shocked when on his return a female member of the group insisted that the deceased did not give N1,000 to the collectors.

A suspected member of the Odua Peoples Congress known by the pseudonym “Ultimate” on Monday allegedly killed an employee of Etisalat, Chukwuma Eze, in the Ejigbo area of Lagos State during an argument over N10 toll. The N10 toll was collected by the OPC members at a footbridge that links Ejigbo with Ajao Estate.

Sensing that the female member of the group could not match Eze’s strength, “Ultimate,” was said to have brought out an object suspected to be charm and hit the telecoms employee with it on the chest. Eze, who is to marry in April, reportedly slumped and died on the spot. It was learnt that immediately words filtered in that Eze had died, his kinsmen in the area carried out a reprisal and attacked some members of the OPC found at the footbridge.

A source told Punch that in the ensuing pandemonium, a member of the OPC was also killed, while some motorcycles and a generator belonging to members of the group were vandalised. The spokesperson for the state police command, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, who spoke to our correspondent on the telephone confirmed the incident but said facts about the incident were still sketchy. He said, “One Chukwuma Eze was allegedly killed by some people collecting money at a footbridge but we cannot say for sure if the collectors are members of the OPC or the local government revenue collectors.

“The incident caused a stir as some friends of the deceased confronted and fought with the suspects. “The details of what exactly transpired are still sketchy because the incident occurred at night but another corpse, identified as one Sumonu, was also found at Ajao Estate later. We (Police) do not know if his death is related to Eze’s killing.” The telecoms employee was said to have been angered by the denial resulting in a fight between him and the female member of the group.

Look what our Educational system has turned out to be.

Our standard of education has fallen, with so many schools closed down here and there, this picture truly depicts the fallen standard of our education. Many students that are being groomed today do not have what it takes to market themselves to be gainfully employed.

What can the government do to eradicate examination malpractices in our educational system today?

James Onanefe Ibori (Odidigborigbo) faces 10years in Jail.

He pleaded guilty to 10 counts; some of them were petty theft in 1990’s in London, money laundering as a former governor of Delta State and conspiracy to defraud.

The question is; how do we get our Nigeria judiciary to be corrupt free, so that anyone found committing atrocities will be behind bars without the so called god fathers interrupting.

Bomb blast rocked the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) headquarters on Sunday in Jos.

There must be a way forward, the rate at which churches are being bombed is enough to scare people away from attending churches. Imagine early hours of this morning, masses had gathered to have one and relation with God only for them to hear explosion from the gate where there were worshipping- the Church of Christ in Nigeria (COCIN) headquarters killing six persons and at least 50 injured. What is Governement truly doing to avoid this ugly incident from happening ever again, so we can all go on our normal business without fear?

Watch the exclusive Interview conducted by Chika Oduah on the 18/02/2012,in New City with D’Banj ….. Even though Fela Kuti was one of his inspirations and was against the politicians for injustice among the poor, he does not know anything about politics and he does not like talking about it.

President Jonathan’s Neighbor2Neighbor versus Nigerian Newspapers Over Unpaid N3billion Pro-Subsidy Adverts.

Hmmmm! This does not tell well of our media houses! :  Sahara Reporter  had it that some Newspapers such as  Leadership newspapers, Vanguard newspaper, The Guardian, This Day, Sun, Blueprint, Compass, Daily Independent, Champion, Tribune, and Business Day, have clashes with GEJ’s Neighbour 2 Neighbour  over the failure to pay about 3billion Naira owed on the pro-susidy removal advertisement in favour of the president.

Nawo! That means these media houses in a way supported the removal of fuel subsidy for them to have accepted to advertise it in the first place.

Adele| fingered salute.

After her acceptance speech for Album Of The Year was cut short by host James Corden due to broadcast time constraints, Adele was rightly pretty annoyed.

Before she was hurried off stage to make room for Blur's performance, she flipped the middle finger to express her anger.

The star said afterwards: 'I was about to thank the British public for their support. They cut me off, sorry if I offended anyone but the suits offended me.'

She added: 'I got cut off during my speech and flung the middle finger. But that finger was to the suits at the Brit Awards, not to my fans.'

What do you guys think about the one fingered salute Adele gave at the brit awards? She's a pretty hard babe.

Government t Releases N15b For Subsidy Palliatives

The Federal Government yesterday approved the disbursement of N15 billion as a revolving interest-free loan to boost public transportation in the country.

The programme initiated by President Goodluck Jonathan on January 8 during the anti-fuel subsidy removal protests by organised Labour and civil society groups is part of efforts to reduce the cost of transportation for Nigerians.

At the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting where the approval was announced yesterday, the government also endorsed the issuance of provisional licences to five new private universities in the country. ………From The Guardian.

On the N15 billion revolving loan for public transport, Information Minister Labaran Maku said: “What Mr. President is trying to do is to ensure that for once this country develops the capacity for mass transportation and this has been done both through the railways, waterways as well as road transportation.

What we approve today will support the purchase of 1,240 high capacity buses for disbursement to competent transport investors in the country. As you do know, this is a revolving loan. Government guarantees the loan at zero per cent interest so that transport investors can have assess to these vehicles and therefore use them to reduce the cost of transportation in all the major cities across the country. .

“The buses are given on the basis of a thorough scrutiny on the capacity of the transporters to run them on a sustainable basis. Also, those companies that have been given the nod to supply the buses have accepted to set up infrastructure in Nigeria for a sustainable supply of spare parts as well as the maintenance of these vehicles. In the next couple of years, government will only patronise those companies that are prepared to site manufacturing plants in Nigeria.”

The five new universities bring the total number of universities in the country to 122. Each of the new universities has an older university as a mentor. .

The universities include Elizade University, Ilara-Mokin, Ondo State (with University of Technology, Akure, as its mentor); Evangel University, Akaeze, Ebonyi State (with University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as its mentor); Gregory University, Uturu, Abia State (with University of Nigeria, Nsukka, as its mentor); McPherson University, Seriki Sotayo, Ogun State (with University of Ibadan as its mentor) and Southwestern University, Okun Owa, Ogun State (with University of Lagos as its mentor).

Maku, the Minister of Education, Prof. Ruqayyatu Rufa’i and Minister of State for Trade and Investment, Samuel Ortom, told journalists at the end of the meeting chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo that the council approved the new universities because the existing 117 universities were “grossly inadequate” to serve a population of over 168 million Nigerians.

Maku noted: “The gross inadequacy of this figure in relation to the population size of our country is glaring. This has continued to be a challenge. Therefore, strategies being adopted by the Ministry of Education to address this challenge include encouraging private individuals and groups with unquestionable commitment to education to establish private universities.”

He stated that the establishment of more private universities was also an antidote to the proliferation of illegal universities and degree-awarding institutions across the country.

He said: “It is in realisation of this that the Ministry of Education came to council seeking its approval for the issuance of provisional licences for the establishment of five private universities.”

Rufa’i added that the licences for the new universities were issued for only three years at the end of which those that have done well would be given full approval while those that have under-performed would have their licences revoked.

Maku also stated that the new Sapele Power Plant is expected to generate about 225 megawatts of electricity to the national grid.
