Dear Xpresurselfshow, abeg share this with your readers, I hope I did
the right thing
Graduate with Bsc. In linguist has been out of school for the past two years
without a job and then two days ago she got a call on her phone telling that she should come
for an interview at Victoria Island with details to the place as a house tutor
and her C.V(resume) was seen on LinkedIn site. The person she will be working
for is a French woman; all this was related to her via telephone. Of course she
jumped at it……The next day as early as possible she got prepared and wore her best
suit singing and praising God and off she left for the interview. Getting there
…this was her story.
I walked into a big compound, well received, was taken straight to the living room; there I met four other ladies obviously who had come for the same interview. When it was my turn, the French lady said “actually we are looking for a graduate who will be a nanny to my kids, someone who will translate French to my kids in English, and make sure the kids are well looked after, when they are in school, you will cook, clean their rooms and go shopping for the home and also cook for them, you will be living with us,we will feed you and the driver will take you to the market and also pick the kids from school. N60, 000 per month”.
“My people to God and man I was furious, I am fair in complexion and I bet my skin turned red from the horrible words coming from her mouth…in my mind I felt this French woman must think I am stupid and desperate from being called on the phone to be a Teacher to become NANNY(House girl), what experience will I have on my C.V, why was I not told this on the phone so I need not waste my money transporting myself to such a place….and abroad Nannies are paid hourly if out all somewhere in my subconscious mind would stoop so low to considering the job.
Now in my head I calculated the roles of all the jobs I will be involved in….when will I have breathing space,so where will I have time to look for a better job? no privacy…..it was more like a 24hours job because my only break is when the kids are in school but that is the time I’ll be shopping…..I had to walk out with my dignity intact before I lose it with rains of abuses on her, does this woman think she can turn me into a slave in my own country?………..later that same day was told one of the people that came for the interview with me had taken the job.
Should I have taken the job? Or as I kept my head high, hoping and believing that I will get a job that will reflect good experience on my C.V, even if it s N20,000 in a month as a teacher than being a nanny(house girl)”
Do you really think she should have swallowed her pride and taken the job? At least till she gets something better……..I know what some people might be thinking…..the economic situation is to be blamed right?

This country is full of sh*t,blame the leaders
In this Nigeria for you to be successful u need to behave like a fool...she would have taken it and gathered money and start off something within few mths
She should have sacrificed herself for some months....and check out
She f**ked up....na she still in d street struggling
if this girl had serious issues she would have grabbed that job by force
If it was man one hand,he would taken it,but as a woman, there is pride .....women fear them O!
That ridiculous N60,000 doesnt she name that abroad an hour in UK is about 60pounds an hour or so so the french lady was not fair out all with her offer
That's rubbish, why was she lied to,from calling her to be a teacher to a house girl,d so called french woman was lucky there was no signed agreement she for sue her white ass
This govt is subsidy and boko haram, that what we have, if not all this nonse what be happening
Nawo! after 4years struggling in school, running helter-skelter....house girl ....rubish
Mtchewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!
So if they ask her what do you do...im a domestic worker, what experience have got since you graduate....cooking and cleaning....that's crap
So if they ask her what do you do...im a domestic worker, what experience have got since you graduate....cooking and cleaning....that's crap
Stoop low to conquer....if she schooled abroad u shld be she would known that she needs to do some odd job to move ahead.
as a biz person the humilation one goes thru to make it,she has to keep her eyes on d ball.
its a question of pride
She should have put the tutoring part on her C.V and ignore the cooin and crap out
If it was a man that asked her to be personal assistant she would have jumped at it...painting and wearing hot mini
If had schooled abroad no job is minial job
its an individual choice,i would take the job..in this hard economy,bc that money can help me and train some of my siblings, when you have responsibilities you have no choice really...4get certificate O!
Let come her be my second wife and her I pay her N60,000...lol
She shld have taen the job bc so many opportunities that might come her way for example travelling all over the world...since they are french at some point they will want to travel to France etc and if she was good she would have she make a good thing out of it
As long she not a job that requires drugging or killing somebody, why not it kool for someone who has been on job hunt for two years
Ive read what others are saying abt this lady but you guys shld give a break,it cld be a point of preference
Every one wants d easy way out especially in ds part of d world, those that went school are suffering while those didnt go to school are ruling d nation...so dregree is out d question what matters is d KUDIIIIII
Nawo! its really not easy, the choice get asi be
Its such a shame 9jia is to be blamed if things were working well ds wont even be a topic
Simple if u dont want to take it you dont want take it regardless of the crappy cooking etc
Stick to ur gun, know what you want and go for it regardless of the circumstances that country presents it self....
The key word here is faith....hold on to what you believe,if you think you can get a better job then by all means keeping searching
I will limit it to Nigeria bc this where i live....in Nigeria WE DONT LIVE,WE EXIST,if she understood that she would have taken d job.if it happens in Nigeria it can happen in Africa d existence that is what iam talking abt
She walked into an interview that she has been told on the phone to be a tutor only for her to get there and be told a nanny A GLORIFIED HOUSE GIRL......MTSCHEWWWWWWW!
Sometimes you need to take a look around and hold d bull by the horn.....look at the over head cost...you have a home, food and then N60,000...girl you should have taken it
It was a very bad one really, there was no time for her to even think about it...she never told her to wait a minute and think about,i bet you the french woman will be saying thru her nose there are many out there who are dying for this opportunity...rubish
Things are tough, you have to do what you can to survive
The job might not be attractive at this moment but she would have looked ahead and see far...opportunities comes but once
she is just lazy
Ive seen a situation where a maid who has travelled around d world.....sometimes is not what u do but whom u are working with....life is not what we need now now,we all need a mentor, people can takke u to next level bc of ur personality that count that make things happen and change you life for good, look all who made it opportunity in life
that's not true the last persons's commentdid add up to me so you jump at any job regardless of the offer
The so graduate is just taking the piss...
Sometimes in life you need to start at grass root, degree or no degree
The people offering her d job were not honest, right from d beginning
The person that said all the people who have made it today humilated themselves bf they got to the top, that DIDNOT add up to me at all, so someone shld jump at any job regardless of the offer?
Are we going backward or forward, so what was the point of going to school to get a degree is it not to get d so called white collar job?
I read other comments yday,i was too tired to give my response...its easy4 people to judge....have you tot of what she went thru in d university?she must have had plan of being a career lady and given herself a time frame to build up the ambition....there's nothing wrong in setting high standard for oneself,so u guys shld let her be and get down on your high horse and stop judging
Beimg a HOUSE GIRL for graduate is demeaning anyway you look at it -----GLORIFIED HOUSEMAID,besides these white kids are disrespectful, she made d right choice bc nobody is going to take seriously whendecides to go into the cooperate world
lmfao! glorified Nanny, from graduate to house girl
What a shame really, from grace to grass
God will do it for you eh! that ur praise to HIM that morning will not be in vain
Its well with this nation O! from graduate to house girl
This will be a slight on me if this had happened to me...what?
Her potentials will bottled down with insde the houe bc there is no time to check or try out better things bc all her effort and time will be concetrated on doing d job.so its a very very gd thing that she did not take the job.
There are cooperate maids NOT nanny, what she mean, for N20,000 cant buy good suit,if she the job where her over head is taken care of...the feeding,housing....so if she's gd and she loves kids the madam will kind to her and her salary might increase,if she keeps her head down,4get fact that she has Bsc so she can make in life,so she would have taken d job
Capital and the fattest possible NO to the job, shld jave worn the woman for the sake other Nigerian graduate not to try that nonse again, even unskilled people get more than that N60,000 her sight as a graduate is eroded to cap it all will she do this in her own country with multiple roles
The N60,000,figure is not terrible for someone who is not earning any thing if your prepared ur psyche will be messed bc u cant think like a leader, entrepreneur bc has been reduced into cleaner and cook,it wont work
She will be locked up that is her mind, my driver who is not a graduate earns N40,000 start work at 7am,while my cook who is unskilled we are still teaching her to cook earns N20,000,we house her feed her, in an ensuite, what’s the big deal, I pay N20,000 guard N20,000 for just opening and closing the gate, then he mow every now and then ,my laundry man N20,000 who washes twice a week……and the French woman is offering her N6,000,for being a cook, nanny, language teacher , a guard escorting the t driver to pick up the kids …in nut shell “super human” doing ever thing which not in the job specification bc she can be sent to do some rendering jobs around the house please get me a glass of water. As a Nigerian…how can she be looking for job for a two years shld look for work to do that require next to nothing in monetary term e.g property business, and even become a domestic service provider…there a lots to mention a few .
Some of have had odd jobs to climb up there but this particular job, her psychic will be distorted, it won’t allow to think bc you have kids hurling at her, cooking, cleaning at end of the day she might even break down.
I commend her patience for to have kept her cool, while the woman went on with her nonsense talk of being a teacher to nanny, I won’t do it
You cant load her with 6different jobs for N60,000….”Super assistance “bc the job is not a designated job.
Capital and the fattest possible NO to the job, shld have given a warning to the french woman for the sake of other Nigerian graduates not to try that nonsense again, even unskilled people get more than that N60,000 her sight as a graduate is eroded to belittle herself and to cap it all she won't try this in her own country with multiple roles for N60,000
The truth of the matter is that she would have taken the job for a short time say a yr and move on
lmfao! corporate maid which one be that one O!
hmmm! its easier to advise i hope you all are telling the truth,bc its assume that each advise u give is what u'll do
keep ur head high u'll get there
Nawo, i think i blame the economy
you cant blame the economy for everything, certain things must happen, even the strongest economy has employment issues, she shld look in ward and start up sth
I've seen worse where a graduate is a shoe maker...this country is doomed
That's true, she would have taken it some graduate do worse,so she would have taken it after the last comment someone said a graduate a shoe maker wich is worse than the job descriptions she was given
Nawo! for these two last readers, a shoe maker can have time to do what he wants to do in her own case she is almost doing more than 6jobs---like someone mentioned....super assistance
Na form she dey form, hunger never catch am
People are really going thru alot in this economic melt down, so she would have taken it
Chidima, are u a graduate? spill would have taken it in if u were in her position? bc its easier for you to be advising what if in d process dies of job satisfation
Most times emotional health or relaxed mind is beginning of gd health,d money might be there but her long thinking of what people we'll say,how they will look at her when she is the midst of her old school mates who are working in banks, corpoarte bodies, managers, personnel assistant, account,PA in french embassies...etc,and everyone is braging about work and their achievement...what will she now say when its her turn,to her what will be on her C.V from her story so thses are things you guys shld consider bf making ur points or advise.
If those are her reason for refusing the job, she is not serious .....like someone said ....hunger never catch am
Kaii....housemaid a graduate like me,i wont,i rather go the village and farm
Maybe she has a rich bobo that is keeping and body and so together, its only someone who is desperate that will take d offer
Its bad O!after all d suffering in school, back to suffer head doing boy!boy! or girl! girl! especially these white children taht are spoilt, they wont give her any respect
It called governess abroad, she governs the ward and becomes most important person in that ward’s life at point in time.
Foolish girl, its gd as her competitor grabbed the job, where will she get N60,000 in this Nigeria that things are tough.
She would have negoiated with the french woman for N100,000
cant believe this..
First of all you have been sitting at home for two yrs, its consider fresh graduate and secondly humility goes a long way,who nows the woman cld have taken u like her daughter for all you know
mtchewwwwwww! nawo!
Why not,she would have gone for it,i would have if i was found 2yrs jobless
Common now...that wasnt a fair deal....lied to,then working without breathing space
lol!
The french woman is stingy with all the work for such peanut pay
Does it mean this girl has been idle all this while?
How old is this graduate...she is not a serious person
She did the right thing, the foundation was based on lies, why didnt french woman tell on the phone abut other activities of being a cook,a maid etc
My girl, keep ur head high joor...they wan to ensave u
Well she's not serous enouf she 4 take d job
I now of a man who has been at home for 4years all d name of getting a job of what he is worth, next time such a offer comes her way she shld grab it
It shows that her contender who got d job is wiser, she was looking at d future not immediate event
Nawo!
Its sheer laziness
By the time she sits at home for 5yrs then her eyes will clear
all those that are saying she shld take the job,are you guys reading the story at all, she want to be career person, she even said N20K mthly is fine for her as long as her CV is building up,will sbhe put cooking, baby sitting as part of her experience on her CV?
It a pity,i think she did the right thing by not accepting it
She is not serious, good for that she was told her contender she met there gpt d job and she too was a graduate
But seriously why a graduate,bc a BENIN or Cotonu who speaks french and do the job bc the job has no description and its more like a care taker
I think I understand where she's coming from, its not easy to finish sch. and then be told be a maid
its a big disappointing, thank God she didnt react when the woman was on and on abt the house maid duties
Shame! shame! and shame, i blame the economic situation
Our system is just bad,how can a graduate be a maid
If the amount was N150,000 she would have close hers eyes and managed it
The money was too small
The french woman is greedy
The girl must be very lazy for 2yrs idle?
Nawo!that was unfair
The french woman no try out all
That her contender was a wise one
she's not ready for the real world
She is just fooling herself
