Nigerian Sopuruchi Chukwuke gets U.S. Permanent Residency -President Barack Obama
The 26 year-old Nigerian born Sopuruchi who grew up as an outcast in the village of Ovim in southeastern Nigeria because the tumors that distorted one side of his face wouldn’t stop growing.
In 2001, when he was 15, his parents took him to an orphanage and abandoned him. Thankfully, he was rescued by a missionary nun, who arranged medical care in the U.S. Eleven years and seven operations later, doctors have removed the benign growths caused by the genetic disease neurofibromatosis, and have performed reconstructive surgery. He had been living in Michigan on an expired visa. His doctors performed surgeries over a period of time, he says, which contributed to his expired visa. In a rare act, the United States Congress passed a private bill a few weeks ago granting Sopuruchi permanent residency after years of his living in Michigan on an expired visa.
The bill was awaiting President Obama‘s signature but has now been signed. According to CNN, his is the only private bill to pass in Congress in two years. With his permanent residency, Sopuruchi can now attend Medical School at the University of Toledo.
He had earlier attended Wayne State University, where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Biochemistry, obtaining a 3.82 GPA. Soon after that, he got admission to study medicine. Speaking about his ambition to become a doctor, he said “My own personal struggles to receive treatment have motivated and encouraged me to pursue a medical career … to alleviate the pain and suffering of others.” His admission into Medical school however came with one condition: that he obtain permanent-residency status. Now he has and he can live his dreams!

Woman Kidnapped, Raped In Her Car For 5 Hours On Christmas Day, 3 Men Arrested
Three teenage boys kidnapped
woman, 22, on Christmas, robbed her and raped her for five hours even after she
vomited on them.
A young woman’s Christmas—and her life—was shattered Tuesday when she was kidnapped, raped, robbed and beaten in her own car by three teenagers over the course of five hours, according to police.
"You’ll get sick in the stomach," said Upper Darby Police Superintendent Michael Chitwood, before reciting the facts of the case.
Around 11:40 p.m. Christmas night, the 22-year-old victim was in her Jeep Cherokee, waiting for her boyfriend to come out of a nearby bar,
when three men—one of whom had a gun—forced their way inside of her vehicle, Chitwood said. They made the woman move to the back seat and drove her around Philadelphia for hours, police said. One by one, the men took turns in the back seat, forcing the victim to perform sex acts, even after she repeatedly vomited on them, according to court documents.
The men hit her on multiple occasions and robbed her of her Coach purse, wallet, car stereo, cell phone, camera, GPS, ruby ring, diamond necklace, bracelet and her insurance-and-registration paperwork, according to police. After going through her belongings, the men realized the victim had a 2-year-old daughter and they threatened her life and the child’s life if she said anything to authorities. They then parked the car at Long Lane near Marshall Road, told the victim they would throw the keys under the car and fled on foot. The woman waited for several minutes, grabbed her keys and drove to her boyfriend's house, and they both went to the police station. In a bizarre twist, authorities took less than an hour to track down the alleged attackers after police were called to an Upper Darby home to respond to a disturbance.
A woman had called 911 saying a teenager staying over at her house with her son was bragging about having a gun. When officers, who knew about the vicious rape, arrived at the home, they discovered four teens—two of whom were the woman’s sons and one of whom, Kevin Jones, said he was a friend of the woman’s sons who stayed at the house so he could illegally attend Upper Darby High School, police said. The fourth teen at the scene, Kewon Matthews, said he was a friend to Jones, according to police. Inside the house, the observant officers spotted a Coach handbag that matched the one stolen from the rape victim, Chitwood said. After confirming with the woman in the house that the bag was not hers, police opened it and found some of the victim’s stolen items inside.
The victim was then brought to the house where she identified Matthews and Jones, both 17, as two of her attackers, Chitwood said. The sons of the woman who owns the house were questioned but not charged with any crimes. After the arrest of Matthews and Jones, police were able to identify the third suspect as Brehon Rawlings, 19, of Yeadon, Chitwood said. Rawlings was found hiding in the bathtub of his home around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, police said.
All three men were charged as adults with kidnapping, rape, robbery and related offenses and are being held on $500,000 bail each. They are scheduled for a preliminary hearing on New Year’s Eve day.

The horrific story: 'We watched our kids roast to death like goats' - couple who lost five children in fire
“I wanted to kill myself because I do not know where I am
going from here. I do not think, I can cope because my entire life struggles
are gone. After five children, we have decided not to bear children again. But
now, we are starting again,” he lamented. He stated that since the incident,
life has not been easy for his family, revealing that he and his wife are still
receiving treatment in the hospital. “It has not been easy for us since then.
We have no child, shelter, clothes, money and property. Also, we have not recovered from the shock. So, anyone who knows what it takes to lose five children and everything should please assist us to come back to life. My wife’s spirit has gone down; she has been thinking of how to get another child,”
We have no child, shelter, clothes, money and property. Also, we have not recovered from the shock. So, anyone who knows what it takes to lose five children and everything should please assist us to come back to life. My wife’s spirit has gone down; she has been thinking of how to get another child,”
According to Sunnewsonline, Speaking amid tears, Mrs Margaret Ikwuagwu, said her fine kids, Chukwuemeka (13), Ifeanyichukwu (10), Bright (8), Joy (6) and Victoria (4) were sleeping in the house when the incident started at 10pm.
She said that all efforts to rescue the children failed. “I asked my children to go and sleep in the room while I was preparing to close shop for the day. Then, shortly, someone ran to tell me that our house was on fire. I abandoned everything I was doing and ran down to the house. When I got there, the fire had already covered the whole place and I could not enter my room to rescue my children,” she said. Mrs Ikwuagwu explained that she cried for help, but no one came to her aid.
“When I got there, I met a mammoth. My co-tenants were busy removing their children and property. They started the rescue as soon as the fire broke out, but never bothered to inform me that our house was on fire. I tried to rescue our children, but I could not because the fire had covered our room. I heard the voices of my children shouting. But could not save the situation. I cried for help, but no one assisted me. “I forced myself inside the room when I heard my children crying for help, with the hope that I would bring out at least one or two, but I ended up being burnt by fire; so I ran out.” The woman revealed that as she was shouting, her husband arrived at the scene.
“When my husband arrived, we joined hands to rescue our children. He pushed the door, but the fire was too much; he tried to force himself through the window; yet he did not succeed. We called our children, but they did not answer us. When we tried and saw that there was no hope again, we fainted, having watched our five children, cash and other property ruined by fire. We were rushed to the hospital immediately and did not know what happened later,” she stated. Mrs. Ikwuagwu stated that it was after some hours that she and her husband recovered from the shock. “When we recovered, we were asked to come to Kirikiri Police Station to make statement. Thereafter, we were asked to come and take our children for burial. So, we went to bury them at Trinity Cemetery, Olodi Apapa.” She revealed that before the fire disaster, her family had planned to travel home on December 22 for Christmas. “I do not know why this thing happened to us.
Why should our five children go like that? We were preparing to travel home on December 22 for Christmas. Now here we are. Where do we start and how far do I go from here? I know that it was not an ordinary fire. But, however, God will take control of the whole thing,” she lamented. Narrating what happened, Mr. Augustine Ikwuagwu, popularly known as Osuofia, said that when he arrived he tried his best to rescue the children, regretting that the fire had already taken over the entire compound. He said:
“On December 12, I went to my wife’s shop and saw my children sleeping and I asked my wife to take them home, which she did. We did not lock the children inside the house, as people are saying, rather. Our 12-year-old son, Chukwuemeka, took them home, and when the fire started, no one cared to call us and as a result, our children got burnt to death. We have three male and two female children and they died same day. As it is, I have no house, no property and no child. People are saying that we locked the children inside the room and lighted a candle, but I am telling you that we did not lock them inside and we did not use candle at all; what we use was rechargeable lamp.”
He also stated that the cause of the fire is yet to be known. “We are still surprised about how the fire started and up till this moment, we have not been able to know the cause of the fire.
But God has the answer,” he stated. Mr. Ikwuagwu said the fact that they watched their five children suffer and died in the fire was the worst thing that has happened to him and his wife.
