Ogun State- tragedy – pregnant woman,4 others crushed to death

Tragedy struck in Sango, Ado-Odo Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, yesterday when a truck loaded with cement ran over a pregnant woman, one teenager and three others and killed them instantly. No fewer than eight others were on danger list. The accident involved six vehicles, one tricycle (Keke Marwa) and one motorcycle.

Another accident occurred at Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State. An eyewitness said the truck matched on the occupants of the vehicles like goats, inflicting on them serious injuries.

The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ayobami Omiyale, who confirmed the accident, said “five people were involved, three of them were taken to General Hospital, Ifo, and two were referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. Nobody died.”

“The scene of the accident is not far from our office. FRSC was the only rescuing corps that handled the incident,” Omiyale said, adding that there was a head-on collision between the truck and a tipper lorry which later involved other vehicles.

However, it was gathered that the other accident that occurred in Mowe, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, claimed almost 19 lives. The accident, according to Omiyale, involved a black Toyota Hilux van marked AH350GKW and a white Mazda bus marked XZ377GGE.

Omiyale said that the 19 victims, including two women, had been rushed to a nearby hospital where they were receiving medical treatment. The sector commander, who blamed the accident on reckless driving and overspeeding, disclosed that the accident victims were lucky as the road was not blocked and that gave him and his men the opportunity to promptly take them to the hospital.
