A Bsc holder as housemaid

Dear Xpresurselfshow, abeg share this with your readers, I hope I did the right thing
Graduate with Bsc. In linguist has been out of school for the past two years without a job and then two days ago she got a call on her phone telling that she should come for an interview at Victoria Island with details to the place as a house tutor and her C.V(resume) was seen on LinkedIn site. The person she will be working for is a French woman; all this was related to her via telephone. Of course she jumped at it……The next day as early as possible she got prepared and wore her best suit singing and praising God and off she left for the interview. Getting there …this was her story.

I walked into a big compound, well received, was taken straight to the living room; there I met four other ladies obviously who had come for the same interview. When it was my turn, the French lady said “actually we are looking for a graduate who will be a nanny to my kids, someone who will translate French to my kids in English, and make sure the kids are well looked after, when they are in school, you will cook, clean their rooms and go shopping for the home and also cook for them, you will be living with us,we will feed you and the driver will take you to the market and also pick the kids from school. N60, 000 per month”.

“My people to God and man I was furious, I am fair in complexion and I bet my skin turned red from the horrible words coming from her mouth…in my mind I felt this French woman must think I am stupid and desperate from being called on the phone to be a Teacher to become NANNY(House girl), what experience will I have on my C.V, why was I not told this on the phone so I need not waste my money transporting myself to such a place….and abroad Nannies are paid hourly if out all somewhere in my subconscious mind would stoop so low to considering the job.

Now in my head I calculated the roles of all the jobs I will be involved in….when will I have breathing space,so where will I have time to look for a better job? no privacy…..it was more like a 24hours job because my only break is when the kids are in school but that is the time I’ll be shopping…..I had to walk out with my dignity intact before I lose it with rains of abuses on her, does this woman think she can turn me into a slave in my own country?………..later that same day was told one of the people that came for the interview with me had taken the job.

Should I have taken the job? Or as I kept my head high, hoping and believing that I will get a job that will reflect good experience on my C.V, even if it s N20,000 in a month as a teacher than being a nanny(house girl)”

Do you really think she should have swallowed her pride and taken the job? At least till she gets something better……..I know what some people might be thinking…..the economic situation is to be blamed right?

    ReplyDelete
  52. There are cooperate maids NOT nanny, what she mean, for N20,000 cant buy good suit,if she the job where her over head is taken care of...the feeding,housing....so if she's gd and she loves kids the madam will kind to her and her salary might increase,if she keeps her head down,4get fact that she has Bsc so she can make in life,so she would have taken d job

  53. Capital and the fattest possible NO to the job, shld jave worn the woman for the sake other Nigerian graduate not to try that nonse again, even unskilled people get more than that N60,000 her sight as a graduate is eroded to cap it all will she do this in her own country with multiple roles

    ReplyDelete
  54. The N60,000,figure is not terrible for someone who is not earning any thing if your prepared ur psyche will be messed bc u cant think like a leader, entrepreneur bc has been reduced into cleaner and cook,it wont work

    ReplyDelete
  55. She will be locked up that is her mind, my driver who is not a graduate earns N40,000 start work at 7am,while my cook who is unskilled we are still teaching her to cook earns N20,000,we house her feed her, in an ensuite, what’s the big deal, I pay N20,000 guard N20,000 for just opening and closing the gate, then he mow every now and then ,my laundry man N20,000 who washes twice a week……and the French woman is offering her N6,000,for being a cook, nanny, language teacher , a guard escorting the t driver to pick up the kids …in nut shell “super human” doing ever thing which not in the job specification bc she can be sent to do some rendering jobs around the house please get me a glass of water. As a Nigerian…how can she be looking for job for a two years shld look for work to do that require next to nothing in monetary term e.g property business, and even become a domestic service provider…there a lots to mention a few .
Some of have had odd jobs to climb up there but this particular job, her psychic will be distorted, it won’t allow to think bc you have kids hurling at her, cooking, cleaning at end of the day she might even break down.
I commend her patience for to have kept her cool, while the woman went on with her nonsense talk of being a teacher to nanny, I won’t do it

    ReplyDelete
  56. You cant load her with 6different jobs for N60,000….”Super assistance “bc the job is not a designated job.

    ReplyDelete
  57. Capital and the fattest possible NO to the job, shld have given a warning to the french woman for the sake of other Nigerian graduates not to try that nonsense again, even unskilled people get more than that N60,000 her sight as a graduate is eroded to belittle herself and to cap it all she won't try this in her own country with multiple roles for N60,000

    ReplyDelete

    ReplyDelete
  70. Most times emotional health or relaxed mind is beginning of gd health,d money might be there but her long thinking of what people we'll say,how they will look at her when she is the midst of her old school mates who are working in banks, corpoarte bodies, managers, personnel assistant, account,PA in french embassies...etc,and everyone is braging about work and their achievement...what will she now say when its her turn,to her what will be on her C.V from her story so thses are things you guys shld consider bf making ur points or advise.

    ReplyDelete
  71. If those are her reason for refusing the job, she is not serious .....like someone said ....hunger never catch am

    ReplyDelete
  72. Kaii....housemaid a graduate like me,i wont,i rather go the village and farm
