Vivien, i dont know whether you have seen this,we must make sure these idiots that call themselves govt revert the fuel back to N65 per litre, let them sacrifice these hugh amt of our money they are using for themselves, just read this which was sent to me by a friend through black berry message By Ben Bruce. WHY ARE WE DOING THIS NOW ?
Let us remind ourselves the reason for this showdown. It is not about subsidy, I keep repeating this fact. It is about the following indices that make our govenrment big, wasteful and ineffective:

Big and overblown governments at all levels
70 Ministers
Over twenty Special advisers (on what?)
Every minister is entitled to 4 Special Assistants
Senate President earns 88 Million Naira monthly
His Deputy Earns 55 Million Naira monthly
Senators take home 14 Million naira monthly
It takes 1.4 Billion naira to mantain the NASS annually (Rememeber what Sanusi said about 25% of our GDP is used to feed people who only sit Tuesday - Thursday)
Our Governors exhibit such level of opulence shunned by the richest nations in the world
Our 2012 budget has a deficit component to it. We are supposed to borrow about 1.6 TRILLION NAIRA.
NASS will be paid from that!
Aso Rock will use 1 Billion of it to eat!
Aso Rock will use another 1 Billion to fuel generators.
The Vice President will use 58 Million Naira to buy newspapers
The office of Patience Jonathan will use 500 Million to speak bad english to you.
We will spend close to 500 Billion on International Travels
In 2012, some state governors will collect 100 as security votes MONTHLY
They will continue to enjoy immunity clause!
Your hospitals will have no drugs
Your schools will still have no quality to train a world class scholar
Your roads will still be death traps
You will still be a local government unto yourself, providing water, security, power and social security!
You will still pay more for petroleum products.
You will pay toll in 2012 on federal interstate roads.
If you will like this to continue in 2012, then stay at home and enjoy power as provided by PHCN!

Edafe, this has passed fuel subsidy, the corruption in this Nigeria is too much we can not be fooled any more,ITS NO MORE ABOUT SUBSIDY ALONE: consider these points.

1. The American President has only 2 aircraft, our president has 9 in his fleet and voted money recently to buy 1 more!

2. The British prime Minister has only 2 official cars, our president has 23 in his pool and only recently voted 300m naira to buy 2 more bullet/bomb proof ones!

3. Senators in the US earn about $6,000 dollars monthly and that's about what a university professor, or a director in a state department, or a doctor with 20yrs experience, or a teacher with 25yrs experience earn too.

In Nigeria a senator earns 245million Naira per annum! Representing the salaries of 25 vice chancellors, or 50 medical doctors, or 60 directors, or 500 school teachers!

4. The US, almost d size of Africa with about 500million people have 24 ministers, and 32 govt parastatals and commissions. Nigeria has 42 cabinet ministers, and over 50 government parastatals!

5. America with about 500million people and more mileage to drive consumes 39million litres of petrol daily, Nigeria with 150million people 60% out of which live in remote areas, yet our government tells us we consume about 35million liters of petrol daily!

IS SUBSIDY REALLY THE PROBLEM OF NIGERIA?

And a last one!!! President Jonathan last bought fuel with his own money in 1996 shortly before coming on board the NDDC! So also is a whole lot of them in government!

It is time to re-think and re-define. We have to remove money from politics. Political office holders should earn what civil servants earn. That's what they are: CIVIL SERVANTS . . . ! ! !

Was there any need for the subsidy in the first place?
‎1) One barrel of Crude oil = 42gallons or
159 litres

... 2) Our Refineries (i.e 4) Installed
(combined) capacity = 445,000
... ... barrels per day

3) Actual refineries capacity due to
ageing equipment = 30% i.e. 133,500
barrels per day
.
4) . . 133,500 barrels = 21.2 million litres

5) Local required consumption (F.O.S) =
12millions litres

6) It means that even our MORIBOND
refineries can actually meet our local
consumption need of petroleum.

7) The cost structure of crude oil (i.e.
Qua Iboe Crude Oil) production;
- Findings / development - $3.5
- Production cost - $1.5
- Refining Cost - $12.6
- Pipeline/transportation - $1.5
- Distr/bridging fund Margin -$15.69

8) True cost of one litre of petroleum
anywhere in Nigeria;
- Total sum cost = $34.8
- 1ltr cost = $34.8/159 litres = $0.219
- Naira equiv. 0.219xN160= N35.02k
- Add Tax N5 + N35.02 = N40.02

9) Let FGN refute the above composition
and if not, they should tell us how
they came about N65/litre.

10) Locally refined products cannot be
sold at International price.

11) We really do not need FGN SUBSIDY
as there was NONE in the first place.

12) What is LACKING, is the WILL to
enforce LAW ON CORRUPTION.

Pls re-post until it gets to the right quarters for their response;

We still stand a chance as a COUNTRY.
Analysis done by Professor Tam David West, former Petroleum Minister.

Nigeria is one of the most corrupt countries in the world and government officials see their appointment as a chance to LOOT. If a government official tells you that he earns N50, he really 'earns' N2000. This is why the 8th biggest oil exporter in the world cannot provide basic amenities. Nigeria needs a radical change.
This can not happen here in USA where I reside.
