He was appointed on the 04/11/11 as new Super Eagles coach. The association had said Keshi would be expected to ensure the team's qualification for the 2013 African Nations Cup finals scheduled for South Africa, also be expected to not only qualify the team for the 2014 FIFA World Cup finals in Brazil but also lead it to the quarter-finals stage at least.
Samson Siasia was relieved of his job due to his inability to lead the Super Eagles to qualification for the 2012 African Cup of Nations finals in Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
