Syria massacre on friday

My God…this is inhuman, how can you explain why children of 3months,10yrs and or any other age for that matter be sliced like loaves of bread?

The killings in a collection of villages called Houla near the central Syrian city of Homs last week have drawn fresh attention to the Syrian conflict,because of the brutality of the massacre. Activists posted amateur videos online showing shells exploding in the village, dismembered bodies lying in the streets, then rows of dozens of dead laid out before being buried in a mass grave. These victims includes 108 , with 47 children between 3 months old and 10 years who had either been shot or stabbed to death.

An eye witness said they blamed pro-government thugs known as shabiha for the attacks, noting that they sometimes operate “in concert” with government forces. “Most of the rest of the victims were summarily executed in two separate incidents,” . “At this point it looks like entire families were shot in their houses.”

Taiwo Akinwande, a.k.a Yetunde Wunmi was arrested and jailed for possession of hard drugs at the Lagos Airport. During her interview when made a comeback, she was asked what led to drug peddling.

This was her response “Maybe I allowed my love for money to get too much over me. I was actually very broke at that time. Then I could not boast of N10,000 in my savmgs. It was that bad. It was actually a temptation. And I thank God for His mercy.”

Report of violent protest by Students of UNILAG Akoka,Yaba over change of the Institute name.

As a result Students are right now protesting outside the school premises and have even moved to Yaba. Most roads around that area are blocked.The Lagos Mainland is flooded with angry students and from the looks of things it has the potential of escalating to other areas. 

Government do something before it goes out of hand....ha!

University of Lagos would be changed to Moshood Abiola University.

Bus conductor versus LASTMA

What is out society turning into?

PUNCH Metro learnt that Ibrahim (the conductor)and the driver descended on the officials, beat them up and tore their uniforms.

A conductor of a commercial bus identified simply as Ibrahim has been arraigned in a Lagos court for allegedly stabbing an official of the Lagos State Traffic Management Authority, Akingbohungbe Olalekan, in the hand.

Let me rephrase the question what will make a conductor stab LASTMA official?

The driver of a Volkswagen wagon with number plate LAGOS XB 990 AAA, on Wednesday around 3.10pm was obstructing the free flow of traffic by picking and allowing passengers to alight from his bus at an unauthorized place in Ojota area of the state. He was apprehended by Olalekan and another LASTMA official, Alabi Emmanuel, who attempted to impound his vehicle. Olalekan ended up getting stabbed.

It was learnt that Ibrahim later stripped himself naked and stood in front of the bus. Our correspondent gathered that a team of policemen and traffic enforcement agents later arrived at the scene. But the driver reportedly fled while the 28-year-old conductor was arrested and arraigned at a special offences tribunal in Alausa on Wednesday. At the tribunal, Ibrahim was charged with breach of public peace, obstructing state officers from carrying out their lawful duty, assault and traffic violation by picking passengers in places that were not bus stops.

When his plea was taken, he pleaded not guilty to all the charges. Magistrate Yetunde Phinero admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N50,000 and two sureties in the like sum. She adjourned the case till June 21, 2012. But the accused was remanded as he could not meet the bail condition. Meanwhile, the General Manager of LASTMA, Mr. Babatunde Edu, on Friday warned that the agency would prosecute traffic offenders, especially the violent ones. Edu , who said prosecuting traffic offenders would serve as a deterrent to errant motorists, said the warning became imperative in view of the rising cases of attacks on LASTMA officials in recent times.

He said, “LASTMA officials have been trained to be civil in their approach and we do not tolerate act of indiscipline among our officials. But a situation where they are attacked while performing their official duties by errant drivers would no longer be condoned. “The law is no respecter of anybody and it is necessary that motorists obey traffic rules and regulations to ensure sanity on our roads. “Rather than take the laws into their hands, we implore motorists to report errant LASTMA officials and we assure them that we will carry out a thorough investigation and act accordingly.

 We do not condone any act of indiscipline among our officials and we do not cover them up if they erred.”

 

56 yr old Lindsay Sandiford faces death penalty for smuggling cocaine worth £1.6million

She was caught smuggling 4.7kg of the drug in her suitcase from Bangkok to Bali who came from Redcar in the north-east of England. Customs official Made Wijaya said today that the woman arrived on a flight from Bangkok on May 19 and that her crime could carry a maximum penalty of death by firing squad.

The story of Wanetta Gibson and Brian Banks- Footballer star released from prison over false rape

How would you react when your friend make you spend  6years of your life in prison for  a crime you did not commit and to add insult to injury that same friend was compensated with $1.5, this happened to this NFL hopeful Brian Banks

 

A one-time promising football star, Brian Banks, weeps after his rape conviction was dismissed in court,on Thursday,May 24^th. He was just 16 when a childhood friend (Wanetta Gibson who was 15years) accused him of kidnapping and raping her at school in 2002. He served six years in prison for the rape he did not commit and remained on probation under electronic monitoring. He had to register as a sex offender and has had trouble getting a job. The worst part was that he had been recruited by colleges and offered scholarships before the accusation.

While Brian was locked up, Wanetta's family successfully sued the school district, claiming it had failed to adequately protect her. The school paid the family $1.5 million.

After ten years of torture for Brian, Wanetta eventually admitted in a videotaped interview with a private investigator that Brian never raped her, but would not admit it to prosecutors as she feared she would have to pay back $1.5 million won in a case against the school

Gibson had claimed Banks had kidnapped her while at Long Beach Polytechnic High School in California, before raping her. But the truth was In fact, they never had sex. Investigators tested her but found no physical evidence of rape, Brooks said. Banks maintained they had not had sex and all sexual contact had been consensual. Yet his then lawyer encouraged the promising student to plead no contest to the kidnap and rape charges, warning Banks he could get 41 years to life in prison if convicted.
 Expecting he would serve just 18 months instead, he followed the advice and pleaded no contest.
 He was in prison for six years.

Brian Bank moving on: his attorneys representing him said their client is entitled to $100 a day for every day of his incarceration under state law.(that's $219,000) After the exoneration on Thursday(May 24th).

 Banks added: 'My only dream in the world is just to be free... For years, I felt like a toy with the switch cut off, sitting on the shelf.'

Another shocking part for me in this story was when ……….The 26-year-old has said he does not plan to pursue legal action against his accuser, and Los Angeles prosecutors have said it is unlikely Gibson will be charged with making false accusations, saying it would be a tough case to prove.

Really, a tough case to prove?

Zaria LG Tackles Poverty with N13 million Grant to Indigenes

In an exercise to alleviate poverty in the state, the Zaria Local Government Area of Kaduna State on Saturday disbursed N13 million to 1,300 people.

The Council’s Interim Management Committee Chairman, Alhaji Umar Rabagaddama, said the exercise was to set a pace for the beneficiaries to at least start something that would make them become self-reliant.

The exercise which was designed by the State Governor, Mr. Patrick Yakowa is to deal with the effects of poverty among the people.

Since the population of Zaria is 975153 from Geographical database, if only 1,300people were given this money…what happens to the rest?
