Anambra offers to pay N5m to anyone that can give information about the corpses on Ezu River

Anambra State Governor, Peter Obi, has offered to pay N5m to anyone that can give information that will lead to the source of the unidentified corpses found floating on the Ezu River bordering Anambra and Enugu States on Saturday.

Obi, who cut short his overseas trip to visit the scene on Sunday, described the killing and dumping of the corpses as barbaric and shocking.

He said, “What happened here is unacceptable in any decent society. Human life and blood is scared and all of us must respect the sanctity of human life.” The governor, who said the two states would investigate the incident, added that they had directed the police to move in their homicide team and recover the bodies.

The governor directed residents of the two communities bordering the river, Amansea in Anambra State and Ugwuoba in Enugu State to desist from fetching water from the river until the corpses were cleared from the river. Meanwhile, the corpses have begun to decompose and are oozing offensive smells in the neighbourhood.

It was gathered that the police, local governments, ministry of health and the Anambra State Emergency Management Agency did not have the facilities to evacuate the corpses. Residents of the two communities have however been raising concerns about the consequences of allowing the corpses to pollute the river, which they depend on for economic activities, like fishing, sand excavation and water supply.

The source said Mr. Bayero travelled along with his eldest son Ciroman Kano, Sanusi Ado Bayero, who was hit by a bullet in the attack.

Also on the emirs entourage are his other guards who sustained injuries.
Sources also said the emir looked “Ok, because there is no sign of injury on him.”

If the prayer will bail him out, let us wait and see- Pastor Tunde Bakare

Pastor Tunde Bakare of the Latter Rain Assembly tells Punch:

They have signaled the campaign by going to kneel down before Pastor Adeboye. See, I am not saying that pastors should not pray for presidents, that man was representing an office; a whole nation crumbling before men of God because of political advantage they think they can get. And if the prayer will bail him out, let us wait and see. The truth is who is preparing for 2015, which faction of the PDP? Is it the (Olusegun) Obasanjo faction? Or IBB faction? Or Jonathan faction? The governors’ faction? Because PDP is a house divided against itself; it’s a chicken that has begun to eat its own intestines. By going to kneel down in the open before the pastor, the man (Jonathan) did not even recognise the dignity of his office. If it were a private thing, it is okay for you to crawl or kneel but it is a whole nation. That office has been diminished by a man who does not know the worth of it and does not deserve to stay there for one more day.
