Wealthy 123 Nigerians spend over N500 billion on private jets

The president of the National Association of Aircraft Pilots and Engineers. He said in the last one year, the number of private jets acquired by wealthy Nigerians have more doubled. 123 Nigerians which includes billionaire business men like Mike Adenuga, Ifeanyi Ubah, Aliko Dangote, Bishop Oyedepo, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, Peter Odili, Nduka Obaigbena, ex bank MDs, politicians, business moguls, oil companies and banks have spent over N500 billion buying very expensive private jets.

In the last one year, at least five Hawker 900 XP jets have been bought and each cost $14.9million. Five 800 XP at $13 million and at least two Hawker 4000 at $21 million have been bought.

Many of these private jets are parked at the apron near Arik Air hanger and at the General Aviation terminal near Aero Contractor's terminal. It costs at least N80 million to maintain these jets annually and over 500 expatriate pilots and engineers working on these private jets.

Chief Judge frees 236 Kirikiri Prisons inmates in Lagos



Lagos Chief Judge, Justice Ayotunde Philips yesterday released 233 inmates, majority of whom were awaiting trials at the Kirikiri Prisons, Lagos.

The exercise which formed part of the on-going new legal year programmes was also a step to de-congest the prisons.

Most of the lucky inmates have stayed for over 12 years.

The Chief Judge, who was accompanied by senior members of the judiciary including judges and the Chief Registrar, released 133 inmates from the Kirikiri Maximum Security Prison and 103 from the Medium Security Prison.

She, however, shifted forward the attempt to release inmates from the women prisons, also located at Kirikiri.

Apart from the on-going legal year programme, the Chief Judge was empowered to release the inmates pursuant to the powers conferred on her under Section 1 (1) of the Criminal Justice Release from Custody Act, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria 2007.

A Man Rapes 8 Children


The police in Ipaja-Ayobo area of Lagos State, southwest Nigeria have arrested a man who allegedly defiled eight children. He is now being detained, awaiting arraignment in court.

The suspect, Mr. Temitope Alo was arrested on Saturday at Koloba area of Ayobo after the children allegedly confessed that he had raped them.

Lagos to criminalize smoking in public

Lagos state Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Ade Ipaye, has said that government would enact an edict banning smoking in public places.

He told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) yesterday in Lagos that though the Lagos Traffic Law prohibits smoking and drinking while driving “so as to reduce accidents on the roads” it was also part of government’s plan to prohibit smoking in public places.

Female cashier of a bank sends robbers after a customer

A female cashier working in a new generation bank along New Market Road, Onitsha, Anambra State has landed in trouble for sending robbers after a customer just after he withdrew N5 million from the bank.

It was gathered that the customer was attacked by the armed bandits who operated on two motorcycles while waiting to board a vehicle to his destination.


House of Reps order CBN to withhold introduction of N5000 note

The House of Representatives has ordered the Central Bank of Nigeria to withhold the planned release of the N5,000 notes pending the outcome of the investigation of the House Committee on Banking and Finance.

The lawmakers resumed today after a long recess and at their meeting, agreeed that the committee would investigate the planned introduction of the controversial N5000 note. The committee would also look into the redesigning of the N10, N20 and N50 into coins.

 The House passed the resolution following a motion moved by a minority leader, Femi Gbajabiamila. He called on the National Assembly to urgently reform the CBN Act which allows the apex bank to expend money without the National Assembly’s appropriation.
