Ogun State- tragedy – pregnant woman,4 others crushed to death
Tragedy struck in Sango, Ado-Odo
Ota Local Government Area of Ogun State, yesterday when a truck loaded with
cement ran over a pregnant woman, one teenager and three others and killed them
instantly. No fewer than eight others were on danger list. The accident
involved six vehicles, one tricycle (Keke Marwa) and one motorcycle.
Another accident occurred at Mowe, along the Lagos-Ibadan expressway in Ogun State. An eyewitness said the truck matched on the occupants of the vehicles like goats, inflicting on them serious injuries.
The sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Ayobami Omiyale, who confirmed the accident, said “five people were involved, three of them were taken to General Hospital, Ifo, and two were referred to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital. Nobody died.”
“The scene of the accident is not far from our office. FRSC was the only rescuing corps that handled the incident,” Omiyale said, adding that there was a head-on collision between the truck and a tipper lorry which later involved other vehicles.
However, it was gathered that the other accident that occurred in Mowe, along Lagos-Ibadan expressway, claimed almost 19 lives. The accident, according to Omiyale, involved a black Toyota Hilux van marked AH350GKW and a white Mazda bus marked XZ377GGE.
Omiyale said that the 19 victims, including two women, had been rushed to a nearby hospital where they were receiving medical treatment. The sector commander, who blamed the accident on reckless driving and overspeeding, disclosed that the accident victims were lucky as the road was not blocked and that gave him and his men the opportunity to promptly take them to the hospital.

Falana blames Fashola for Makoko community leader’s death
Femi
Falana, on Sunday, posited that the State Governor, Babatunde Fashola, should
be held responsible for the death of the Makoko traditional ruler, Timothy Agbe
Hunpoyanwha. Here is a recap of the story
In his words, “The Lagos State Government should pay adequate monetary damages to the dependants of the deceased whose fundamental right to life has been brutally violated.”
“Similarly all those whose houses have been destroyed by the government are equally entitled to compensation that is fair and just.”
Falana asked that the accused be prosecuted for murder.
Also, according to him, the state government acted illegally by engaging in the demolition of shanties and structures in the community without a court order. He called for the immediate end to the ongoing demolition exercise and the eviction of the residents, saying it would have far-reaching consequences. Falana said that the mass displacement of the residents had led to the “disruption of the education of thousands of innocent children.” He also warned the state government not to turn the confiscated land over to moneybags, as done with Maroko, a poor community demolished in 1990. The State Police Command has announced Boma’s arrest, saying investigation had commenced into the killing.

Nigeria now Ineligible to enter Zambia without Visa
Nigeria has been excluded from the African and Commonwealth
countries that do not need a visa to enter the Zambia.
According to a statement on the Zambia Immigration website,
“Nationals of all Commonwealth countries do not require visas to enter Zambia
EXCEPT for those nationals from Australia, Britain, Canada, Gambia, Ghana,
India, New Zealand, Nigeria, Sierra-Leone, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea and
Sri-Lanka who need visas on a reciprocal basis.”
Before
Nigeria was added to the list in June, Nigerians who travelled to Zambia
obtained visa at the point of entry. The new law requires that even for just passing through, Nigerians need to apply for transit visas from Zambian Missions abroad. This new law by Zambia reportedly originates from an incident in December 2011 when Nigerian businessmen were deported on the orders of President Michael Sata for allegedly supporting the opposition party.
On December 23, the federal government of Nigeria says it was using the appropriate diplomatic channels to avert a crisis between Nigeria and Zambia as a result of the “unfair” deportation of some Nigerians from Zambia. The change in visa requirement came to public notice when some Nigerian journalists failed to travel to Zambia for the CNN MultiChoice media Awards held in Lusaka.
The Nigerian government is yet to react to the new development.
Pastor Tunde Bakare arrived the SSS office today
Pastor Tunde Bakare arrived the SSS office at exactly 3:10pm
local time. He was not allowed to go in with his vehicle. He got down by the
road side and walked into their office.
Nigeria's secret police, the SSS, has invited fiery Lagos Pastor Tunde Bakare to explain the content of his Sunday sermon asking President Goodluck Jonathan to resign from office. Pastor Bakare was invited to meet with the State director of the SSS at its Shangisha offices in a Lagos suburb for a 4 PM meeting.
The fiery Lagos pastor and political activist yesterday delivered a damning sermon titled: “How To Change Government Peacefully And Make Society Better”
The pastor leads the Save Nigeria Group (SNG) which has had the government in an uncomfortable stare-down in recent times.
In December 2010, the group visited President Jonathan in Abuja in connection with its advocacy of certain public policies. On its way out of the presidential villa, the group was handed a $50,000 bribe, which it refused. The embarrassed government explained that the money was not a bribe, but “transport fare.”
