EFCC arrests ex-CBN governor, Soludo

Former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, Chukwuma Charles Soludo, was reportedly arrested on Thursday afternoon by operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC in connection with the Australian polymer banknotes bribery scam.

Sources say officials of the anti-graft agency picked up Soludo in Abuja a few hours ago. The ex-CBN governor and former is being by the EFCC at its Abuja office, over his role in the bribery of CBN officials by an Australian currency mint company, Securency in 2006, along with several other former and serving CBN officials.

As at the time of this report, the EFCC spokesperson could not be reached to confirm the arrest. Securency International, a company that manufactures polymer used in banknotes in 28 countries, allegedly paid kickbacks to secure polymer note printing contracts in some countries, including Nigeria.
