Two die as blasts hit newspaper offices in Abuja and Kaduna

What baffles me is the fact that the boko haram are against western education, these bomb is it not made from the knowledge of western education? This is very serious matter; the need for the government to step up their game is now or else …..I reserve my comment.

At least people have been confirmed dead in a bomb blast at the Thisday newspaper office in Abuja, according to Segun Adeniyi, Chairman of the paper’s Editorial board, while a second explosion that affected the same company, the Sun and the Moment newspaper offices went off in the city of Kaduna.
The explosion in Abuja occurred around 11:30am on Thursday at the offices of ThisDay.
Mr Adeniyi who confirmed that the incidence in Abuja was a suicide bombing said that two men disguised as visitors had drove into the Thisday premises in and and detonated the bomb before the security officers could suspect or stop them.

He said five other person who sustained injuries from the incidence are been treating in a hospital in Abuja.

An official of Nigeria’s National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) said the explosion in Thisday office Abuja was caused by a bomb planted inside the newspaper’s office.

“It’s true there was an explosion at Jabi (district),” NEMA official, Yushau Shuaib said “NEMA officials are on the ground,” said he. “They are trying to move those injured to the hospitals, but we don’t have any information on casualties yet.” The agency in an initial statement had said that it did not believe it was a suicide bombing.

Police and paramilitary were on the scene and had surrounded the offices where the blast had taken place. An Associated Press new agency reporter who heard the explosion said it was very large. Witnesses said another blast in the city of Kaduna hit the Sun newspaper office there. Response from Government The Deputy President of Senate, Ike Ekweremadu has condemned in strong terms the bomb attacks on Thisday and Sun Offices in Abuja and Kaduna.

Mr Ekweremadu who described the attack as a grievous affront on the Nigerian people urged Nigerians to unite in their resistance against all acts of terror. He said: “The Nigerian media industry has distinguished itself in not only fighting for and entrenching the current democratic dispensation, even at very high sacrifices, but has as well stood out as a bastion of our unity and the moral voice of our society. “An attack on the media is therefore an attack on the very fabric of the conscience of our society and the fulcrum of our unity, democracy, and good governance which every Nigerian must stand up against”

The Deputy President of Senate who added that the attack was “dastardly, anti-cultural, and anti-Nigeria”, urged the media not to be cowed, but speak up against all acts of terrorism as Nigerians were in solidarity with them.

Lovely!

N7.3 million returned by NAHCO staff he found inside an airplane

Wow! Good people like this are hard to find O! Would you do the same?

Salami Ibrahim, a staff of the Nigerian Aviation Handling Company (NAHCO), who found and returned a wallet containing foreign currency totalling N7.3 million while cleaning an aeroplane has been rewarded for his honesty.

Ibrahim, a cabin cleaning team leader, found the wallet containing £25,000 and €5,000 inside an aircraft at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, (MMIA) Lagos, during a routine cleaning exercise.

Impressed with his show of honesty, the management of Turkish Airlines has rewarded Ibrahim with an all-expenses paid return trip to Istanbul, Turkey; despite the fact that the plane in question is not one of theirs.

Managing Director of the airline in Nigeria, Ali Bulut, said: “This is an act that should be rewarded and encouraged because it is good for the aviation industry in Nigeria.

Even though the incident did not take place on Turkish Airlines’ aircraft, we are happy that it happened at least in the industry. Where I come from, good behaviour is rewarded even if it is not directly to you.
We appreciate Ibrahim so much, and this is worthy of emulation for other aviation personnel that they must be trusted at all times and that good gesture such as this will surely be rewarded.” This is the second time that Ibrahim is returning money found while cleaning aircrafts.

On September 11, 2009, he found another wallet in an aircraft containing cash and returned it to the owner. A letter of commendation was given to him by NAHCO then. He expressed gratitude to Turkish Airlines for giving him the chance for the vacation. “When I found the wallet inside the aircraft while cleaning it, I submitted it to security and airline personnel; and the passenger came to collect the wallet in my presence. I want to thank Turkish Airlines for rewarding me on this,” he said.

Coroner finds Dangote guilty of accident that killed over 40

I’m impressed O! this is one of the few times you hear good news like this, I felt I should  share it on my blog…..I know what you are thinking ….how come it took so long for the truth to come out right? At least something is being done for these victims.

The Lagos state Coroner, has confirmed that the Dangote Sugar refinery truck was the cause of the accident that killed over 40 people on the Otedola bridge estate, along the Lagos Ibadan expressway in 2010.
Also found culpable was the Nigeria Police Force, which was accused of setting up a roadblock along the expressway being a contributory cause.

The Coroner, Tajudeen Elias who was inquiring into the cause of the ghastly accident that occurred on August 15, 2010 around the Otedola bridge estate, along the Lagos Ibadan expressway ruled that the accident was caused by the crashing of the Dangote Sugar refinery truck with failed brakes into a long line of stationary vehicles held up on the bridge by a police checkpoint.

The accident led to the loss of several lives. Magistrate Elias therefore recommended that the management of Dangote Sugar refinery should tender a public apology to the victims and their families which must be published within 3months of the coroner’s findings.

The management of Dangote Sugar is also to locate the driver that drove the truck which caused the accident and hand him over to the police for prosecution.

Magistrate Elias also asked Dangote Sugar to see to the compensation of the victims of the road accident. For the police, the coroner recommended a dismantling of all roadblocks where they still exist, especially where it obstructs the free flow of vehicular movement.

The use of road signs and speed limits at strategic portions of the road to alert users also formed part of the recommendations of the coroner as well as a strict enforcement and regular road surveillance by officers of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC).

Osaze Odemwingie has picked the 2nd of June two weeks after the UFEA champion’s league for his wedding.

Hmmm! Should I say Osaze has a funny would –be father-in-law? Just read!

According to Osaze and his fiancée Sarah, they had fixed their wedding date for May 19th, the date of the Champions League final and one week after the close of the Premier League. However,  his would-be father-in-law insisted he would not attend if Manchester City survived to the end of the competition.

What if Manchester City survived the end of the competition? ahahah........

“We wanted to get married the week after the season ends but when we fixed the date, Manchester City was still in the Champions League and Sarah’s dad, Mike, who is a big fan, said he’s never coming if they’re in the final, which is on that Saturday.”
Osaze who was the fifth highest scorer in the premier league last term with 15 goal, is presently down with a little knee ankle and hamstring injuries which disrupted him from the second season and he has described it as a “Little strange”

All the best Osaze!
