Nigeria Ranked Worst Place To Be Born In 2013
Nigeria came last of 80 countries researched. A new study by the Economist Intelligence Unit, EIU, has ranked Nigeria as the worst place for a baby born in 2013.
The EIU, a sister company of The Economist, ranked Nigeria 80th out of the 80 countries considered for the study with a score of 4.74 out of 10, just below Kenya which scored 4.91.
South Africa, at 53rd position, was the best placed African country with a score of 5.89.
Four North African nations (Algeria, Egypt, Tunisia, and Morocco) as well as oil rich Angola were regarded as better places to bear children ahead of Nigeria.

PM News office engulfed by fire
The inferno, which sources said was allegedly caused by a power surge in one of the offices in the building.
The last floor of the two-storey building, situated at Acme Road, in the Ogba area of Lagos, was affected.
It was learnt that nobody was injured in the incident, which however destroyed equipment in the affected floor.

Girls of 14years are having surgery to reshape their genitalia
The procedures involve reshaping female genitalia and requests may be granted on the grounds that the problem is psychologically damaging.
Researchers from University College Hospital, London, led by Dr Sarah Creighton, claim it is ‘disturbing’ that there is no minimum age limit for the surgery.
They say demand may be growing for such procedures because of poor and inaccurate information available on the internet, usually from private clinics.
Websites of companies that provide female genital cosmetic surgery (FGCS) make ‘unsubstantiated claims’ about the benefits of the procedures.
They also use confusing terminology and do not highlight surgical risks, according to the research published in BMJ Open. A survey of 10 websites found little information was given on short-term or long-term surgical risks either from individual clinics and their surgeons or from the medical literature. ‘'Unsubstantiated claims of physical, psychological and sexual benefits were present on every website’ said consultant gynaecologist Dr Creighton.
'The absence of a lower age limit for any of the FGCS procedures is most disturbing of all’ she said. Labiaplasties, which are operations to reshape the labia, the inner lips of the vagina, have become increasingly common, often because women are dissatisfied with their appearance. Dr Creighton said her research cannot confirm whether some girls are having medically unnecessary surgery.

Bi-Courtney's, Wale Babalakin Arrested, Charged To Court For Money-laundering
More Trouble for the Chief Executive Officer of Bi-Courtney, Wale Babalakin, as he has been charged by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, for money laundering of about N2 billion.
Sources in the commission told revealed that the charges were filed Wednesday morning at a Lagos Court in Ikeja.
The two construction scandals are however different from the money laundering charge. The Babalakin-Ibori money laundering According to sources at the commission, the new charge against Mr. Babalakin is related to his involvement with James Ibori, the former Governor of Delta State who is in jail in the UK for money laundering. Mr. Babalakin is believed to have used one of his many companies to launder about N2 billion for the former governor.
The deal, investigators said was hatched under the guise of building a stadium in Asaba, Delta State during Ibori's tenure as governor (1999-2007). Most of the materials to be used for the construction were allegedly subcontracted to a company owned by Mr. Ibori. Money for the stadium, Over N2 billion, was released, but stadium was never built, investigators said. "Babalakin just helped Ibori siphon the money from the state," an EFCC investigator said.
