Here is what Presidential Villa told Senate
This is just as a breakdown of the Miscellaneous sub-head in Aso Rock’s budget shows that N203,752,432 was allocated for refreshment and meals; N107,412,768 would be spent on honorarium and sitting allowance while N37, 277,825 will be for publicity and advertisement.
These were disclosed, yesterday, when the State House Permanent Secretary, Emmanuel Ogbile appeared before the Senator Dahiru Kuta-led Committee on Federal Character and Inter-Governmental Affairs to defend the N14,715,566,104 budget for next year.
Ogbile also told the senators some other expenses that were being taken care of in the refreshment and meals vote, which he said include National Economic Council (NEC), Council of State, conferences in the Banquet Hall, Presidential retreats, National Merit Award, Children’s Day as well as hosting of dignitaries.
Chairman of the Committee, Senator Dahiru Awaisu Kuta, however, countered the Permanent Secretary on the provision for the Merit Award which he said has its own budget. The Permanent Secretary also gave a further breakdown of the 2013 State House budget as thus, Medical expenses (N50,308,546); Postage and courier services (N10,035,583); Welfare packages (N195,066,223); Subscription to professional bodies (N4,589,793); and Sporting activities (N32,910,730). According to him, Overtime will gulp, N250,455,589; Feeding of animals including animal supplements for the veterinary clinic (N30,584,144); Summit/ Extra ordinary sessions including the UN, African Union, ECOWAS, etc (N228,112,862); and NYSC, IT, LOCUM, Housemanship and contract staff allowance (N144,788,555).
According to Ogbile: “I have taken pains to explain that this money is not just to fund the residence of the President and that of the Vice President. The experience I have had is that this fund is grossly insufficient. It is not even enough.”
The Permanent Secretary noted that “it is also from the budget of N1.305 billion that we take care of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) which holds every Wednesday.”

Meet Ex-banker on hunger strike, sleeps on the street
At the garden on Mobolaji Bank-Anthony Way,Olubiyi Odunaro
turned part of it into his new home, vowing to remain there until he is paid
his benefits.
Hallmark Bank was one of the banks which did not meet the
Central Bank of Nigeria’s recapilatisation policy in 2005 resulting in its
folding up.
Odunaro, a senior manager of the defunct bank,Hallmark Bank Plc, said he began the hunger strike on November 12. He explained that he embarked on the protest to expose the insensitivity of the Federal Government to pay the terminal entitlements of over 14,000 employees of the 14 banks that failed to meet up with the recapitalisation policy.
Odunaro said he wrote President Goodluck Jonathan on October 24 informing him of his decision to embark on the hunger strike if the agencies concerned did not pay them their entitlements on or before October 31.
He said, “I feel downcast with the turn of events in our country and I drew the passion to embark on a hunger strike from my disenchantment to the deliberate denial of common citizens’ rights. “Before, I began this hunger strike, I sought the consent of my family members and I also underwent a comprehensive medical examination. I erected that tent with N27,000 and it is now my new home.”
“Though I take water at 8pm everyday, It’s gradually taking a toll on me as I have started losing weight. “My personal doctor came to examine me on Friday and he said I am not doing bad health wise. There have been pleas from friends and other loved ones to end this strike. But, I will continue with the hunger strike until the FG pays us our lawful entitlements.”
He said, “It wasn’t our wish or our making to be out of jobs. The CBN in its own wisdom introduced the recapitalisation policy and afterwards withdrew the operating licence of Hallmark Bank where I worked and 13 other banks for failing to meet up with the recapitalisation policy deadline.
By the way he is 55years.

This Might Be A Tussle For a Married Woman - Police
The death of Chairman of Ikeja Local Government, Toyin
Hamzat, might be linked to a tussle over a woman, according to the Ogun State Police Command.
The report was that Mr.
Hamzat, was shot dead at about 9 p.m. on Sunday, after he dropped a lady friend
from his car in the Sagamu area, the police said.
The lady, who raised
an alarm after the shooting, told the police that the vehicle used by the
assassins “likely belongs” to her estranged husband.
“Five suspects, including the lady’s husband have been arrested by the police and are currently being interrogated at the state CID, Eleweran, Abeokuta,”
Mr. Hamzat’s corpse has been deposited at a mortuary in Sagamu.

A Nigerian Gospel Singer Jailed in UK For Fraud
31 year old Oluwamayola Ajayi (Nigerian gospel singer) was
jailed in UK for six and half years for stealing more than N30m (120,000
pounds) from lonely women by posing as a pilot, oil executive and grieving
widower.
The convict, according to the Daily Mail of London, used a dating site to steal more than £120,000 from four single women on popular dating website Match.com using a series of aliases and outlandish stories to fleece them of their cash. Ajayi, the report stated, sent email threats, purportedly from a captor, claiming he had been kidnapped and would be killed if a ransom was not paid.
The gospel artiste, who was nominated for best international act at the 2011 Gospel Music Awards under his stage name MaioJoe, was jailed for conspiracy to defraud at Snaresbrook Crown Court with Judge Sarah Paneth saying that it was clear he intended to defraud his victims 'for much more money' than he did. He blew all the money on a luxury lifestyle, including a holiday to South Africa. Judge Paneth added: "This was not money these women had to spare, it was money they needed back urgently.
"Having spent all of their money you pursued them for more by saying you would be killed if they did not pay." The court heard how he gained the women's trust before persuading them to hand over their savings to fund business enterprises insisting the cash would be repaid. His victims, who all live in America and Canada, were 'completely taken in by his elaborate lies.
They were left humiliated and some were financially ruined by the scam, which ran between November 2009 and August 2010. One victim handed over more than $125,000 (now £78,662) from her late husband's life savings and dead mother's estate, which she had earmarked for retirement. Another disabled woman from Nova Scotia was duped into giving Ajayi almost $38,000 (£23,913) after he pretended to be Travis David McFly, a United States Airforce pilot serving in Iraq. Prosecutor Markus Rickard said: "He told a story to her about some gold bars he had found and that he wanted to get them out of Iraq so they could secure their financial future.
"This inevitably led to the woman having supply money via an intermediary in London, to enable the gold bars to be taken from Iraq. "She was completely taken in by him and intended to spend the rest of her life with him. "At one point, she arranged to meet him at an airport and waited for five hours for him, but he did not turn up. "This has left her flat broke and deeply embarrassed. Ajayi pocketed around $30,000 (£18,873) from another internet lover, leaving her in financial dire straits.
The singer also posed as a project manager in the oil and gas industry to fleece $7,000 (£4,404) from his final victim, telling her he needed the cash for expenses, including a 'Crude Oil Lifting Licence.' He told all but one of the women that he was a white widower with children from Britain called Mark West, who was currently living in the US. Ajayi funnelled his ill-gotten gains through false bank accounts, mainly using the fictional identity of Jose Fernando Rodrigues-Guedes. Mr. Rickard added: 'The defendant systematically and repeatedly misrepresented himself to lonely females using the internet and cheated them out of Ł120,000 from November 2009 until August 2010.
"The victims of his deceptions have been left embarrassed and fearful and they have all suffered substantial financial loss or ruin.' Ajayi was arrested last August at the home he shares with his wife in Chadwell Heath, Essex. During interview in a prepared statement, he insisted one of his victims was the girlfriend of a friend who owed him money. He claimed he used an account in the name of Rodrigues-Guedes as he did not have one in his own name. The computer equipment on which police found scores of emails with money transfers, credit card details, bank statements, personal information and photographs belonged to the 'real' Rodrigues-Guedes, Ajayi claimed.
But Rodrigues-Guedes has never been found, prompting police to believe he is simply an identity dreamed up by Ajayi to carry out his con. Ajayi denied conspiracy to defraud, fraud, concealing criminal property, using criminal property and two counts of possessing articles for use in frauds.
He was unanimously convicted by a jury on all counts after a trial after admitting a single count of possessing a false identity document with intent.
