Femi Otedola versus Farouk Lawan

So many questions went through my mind as some horrible events unfold…is Nigeria in deep trouble? Is the country really broke? Can there be a solution to stop corruption in this nation? The question goes on and on ……..as you read this do let us know what went through your mind.

Farouk Lawan, who headed up a probe that uncovered a $6.8 billion fuel subsidy scam in Nigeria, is being questioned by police over allegations that he tried to secure bribes from a major oil tycoon to doctor his report.

 

Farouk Lawan chaired a parliamentary committee set up in January which found that corruption and bad management were rife in Nigeria’s fuel subsidy program, He was taken into custody for questioning by police on Thursday after oil tycoon Femi Otedola, the owner of Zenon Petroleum and Forte Oil, accused Lawan of demanding a $3 billion bribe to remove both companies’ names from a list of firms implicated in the scandal.

Otedola paid part of the bribe but made a secret video of the transaction in order to expose Lawan. Lawan – whose report implicated high-profile businessmen and recommended a “complete overhaul” of the board of Nigeria’s state oil company – denies demanding any bribes.

Lawan’s interrogation come a month after he told the BBC that he had received death threats from individuals after uncovering the scandal in Africa’s biggest oil producer. Lawmakers have voted to strip Lawan of all of his parliamentary responsibilities, but many Nigerians question whether he was guilty of extortion or the victim of a campaign to undermine the findings of his report.

Real talk……Restoration of power (electricity) palaver!

This is not funny anymore, the situation is getting worse, promises, promises…the action itself we have not seen, we only see increment in everything, a classic example recent increase in electricity bills

I was passing through a market on a particular lane which had about 14stores on each lane, this is not an exaggeration out of 14 stores, 10 of the stores had their generators on….the noise from these machines are enough to deafen somebody's ears not to talk of the chemical that emits noxious fumes to the air that those nearby inhale everyday……can’t even imagine this noise as well in each of the individual’s residents  

 

Seriously! Which way Nigeria, which way to go!...............I’ve also realized in my line of duty, having had series of interview with different individuals in their various works of life….99% said Nigerians are existing in this country without the government and as far as they are concerned the government are living in a different world; have no clue how hard they have made the lives of the citizens;suffering and smiling, the worse part, they cannot trust the government and they do not know  what the future holds for them.

This is not good……..O! God heal this land! And I hope the government truly knows that in a country where majority are poor social vices abound to take place, besides which foreign investors will be pleased to invest in such condition?

An Upper Shari’a Court in Funtua town of Katsina State was set ablaze on Thursday by an estranged husband, Ahmed Ubale Mai-Nama, over an alleged dissolution of his marriage.

Witnesses said Mr Ahmed set the court on fire in the early hours of Thursday and stood watching as it consumed the entire building. Hundreds of case files, some over 40 years, were also lost to the fire.
About two weeks ago, Mr Ahmed was said to have filed a case before the court seeking it to safeguard his marriage. A senior court official, who pleaded anonymity, said “when the man realized that he would not win the case, he demanded all he spent during the wedding from his wife’s family and the court granted his prayers; so he was paid all the expenses incurred”.

“Unfortunately for Mr Ahmed, the judgment favoured his wife as the marriage was dissolved by the court,” according to a source in the court. In the early hours of Thursday however, the complainant went to the court and set the building on fire resulting to the destruction of the judge’s office, the chamber and the registrar’s office.

Deputy Public Relations Officer of Katsina State Police Command, ASP Shehu Koko Muhammad, confirmed the incident. A local newspaper reports that the man has been arrested and handed over to the Funtua police area command by the court’s local guards and some passers-by.

Does this remind of the movie called the ‘The First Grader’ a true story of Kimani Maruge  a Kenyan man who enrolled in elementary education at the age of 84 when the Kenyan government announced universal and free elementary education in 2003?

Oh well,we have to celebrate our very own Pa Alimi Olarenwaju Amodu  who Graduated from the university, he  received his Second Class Honours degree in Sociology from the Lagos State University, yesterday. 

We learnt never failed any course during his undergraduate days and was popularly known as “Youngest Student” and “Baba Bookwarm” amongst other students. And here is his story:

 It was by God’s grace that I graduated from LASU without having to re-sit for any carry-over course.

Although during my undergraduate days, I faced a lot of challenging moments like having to wake up very early to catch a bus to school. What really helped me to succeed throughout was that I had from the foundation learned from my mother to wake up as early as 3.00 a.m.

I usually read from 3.00 a.m. to 6.00 a.m to constantly update my scope of knowledge, and I thank God who saw me through to this point.” On how he felt sitting together to receive lectures with students who are young enough to be his grand children, he said:

“That’s very good. It was a stiff competition between me and them. When you are competing with young students, there’s no age consideration.

I have to always struggle to sit at the front in class. Another point is that the lecturers address everyone as equal in the university.” Sharing his most memorable moment on campus, he recalled the incident that occurred in class sometime ago, when he dozed off during a lecture.

 “That day, my lecturer caught me dozing in class. He said to me: ‘Baba you are sleeping’ and I said, ‘No sir, I wasn’t sleeping.” So he said: ‘If you weren’t sleeping, what did I say last?” I couldn’t answer. He asked me what I ate before coming to school, and I told him I ate rice.

Then he advised me not to take heavy meals before coming to school , but just a cup of tea and some slices of bread. “The funniest thing is that I was disciplined by standing up till the end of the lecture.”

A housewife dies due to burn sustained in the kitchen

A housewife died due to burns sustained in the kitchen. Her husband too was hospitalized for injuries due to burns while trying to rescue his wife. How it happened: The gas stove was on and cooking under process. The lady observed some cockroaches near the sink and grabbed a can of insect killer and sprayed it near the gas stove, which was on. There was an explosion and in no time the poor woman was covered in flames, sustaining 65% burns.

Her husband rushed in, tried to douse the flames and his clothes too caught fire. The husband is still in hospital, in the burns ward, still unaware that his wife was declared dead on arrival. Let us understand:- All insect killer sprays such as "Hit", "Mortein" etc. have highly volatile and inflammable solvents.
 The atomized nano spray particles spread extremely rapidly and one spark is enough to ignite this explosive mixture with oxygen present in air.

Did the poor lady realize the hazard involved? Apparently not! Please educate your family about this and spread the word around.... Who knows you may save more than a life!
