Five-year-old girl abducted at Redemption Camp

The abduction of a five-year-old girl, Oluwaseun Ogungbemile, at the Redemption Camp of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, has thrown her parents into panic.

It was learnt that the girl, in company with her parents, had gone to the camp at Kilometre 46 on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, Ogun State, to attend the one-week annual convention of the church that ended on Sunday.

PUNCH Metro learnt that the girl, who is the youngest child of her parents, was last seen playing with two of her cousins on Friday, August 9, 2013.

The victim’s aunt, Omotade Odunowo, told our correspondent that the matter had been reported to the police.

She said, “She (Oluwaseun) was staying at a rented chalet in the camp along with her parents. Around 10am on that day, she was seen with two of her younger cousins, who are between the ages of two and three.

“After sometime, we did not see her again. Due to the young ages of the little children who were with her at the time of her disappearance, we have not been able to know what happened exactly.”

Odunowo said all efforts to trace the victim’s whereabouts proved abortive and the family believed that she had been abducted.

She said the family had searched every nook and cranny of the camp and reported to the relevant authorities in RCCG, all to no avail.

She added that no one had called the family to demand a ransom.

Patience Jonathan rallies for 2015 election

The Nigerian women under the auspices of Nigerian Council of Women Society (NCWS) today organized a mass rally in support of the President Goodluck Jonathan towards  the 2015 general election.

The rally which was tagged “Celebration of Nigerian Women for Peace and Empowerment” witnessed by various women across most nigerian states was heralded by a motorized mass rally from Old Parade Ground area 10 through designated route started at 7.00am with the campaign posters of the President Goodluck Jonathan on each truck used by the women and some men.

The city of Abuja was shut down as business activities were grounded to a halt due the blockage of routes by security agencies. All roads from Berger Junction, Central Business Area, and Secretariat were blocked for the rally, which has led to the traffic snarl in the city. The rally, which is expected end at the Eagle Square later today has continued as at the time of filing this report.

Saharareporters gathered that the rally was funded by the first lady and several ministers as well as some state governors loyal to the president.

Jonathan Rejects Imported Vehicles For 2016 Census.

According to Daily Post:President Goodluck Jonathan has rejected the proposal by the National Population Commission (NPC) for the purchase of imported vehicles for the 2016 census.

The NPC, in a memo brought to the Federal Executive Council (FEC) meeting yesterday, had sought approval for the purchase of 40 Utility vehicles as part of its preparation for the forthcoming census.

Speaking to State House correspondents after the meeting, the Minister of Information, Labaran Maku, said although the Federal Executive Council approved the purchase of the vehicles, the president kicked against their importation and directed that they be purchased from indigenous manufacturers.

According to the minister, the president’s directive is aimed not only at boosting local production, but also at encouraging indigenous manufacturers.

This, the minister added, would also help in creating employment opportunities for Nigerians.

Maku said: “The National Population Commission brought a memo for the purchase of utility vehicles. This was approved, but the president directed that all the vehicles should be purchased locally from indigenous manufacturers”.

The minister hinted that the contract would be given to the Nnewi-based Innoson Motors Vehicle Manufacturing Company, which was supported by the Bank of Industry (BoI).

The company, Maku said, was discovered to be doing well during the recent Good Governance Tour.
