Daughter Rejects Europe-based Fiancé, Mother Slumps &dies

Unbelievable but true

In Ogbeawo Quarters, Asaba, Delta State a mother of a 26-year-old graduate of philosophy from the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), was reportedly proposed to by a Europe-based “grave digger” slumped and died a few hours later in the hospital over her daughter’s refusal to marry him.

The lady’s photographs were sent to the “lover boy” who hails from Igbanke in Edo State for approval as his wife and upon his endorsement, he sent his photograph to the lady and phone numbers for her confirmation. LEADERSHIP SUNDAY learnt that the ‘lover boy’, a graduate of chemical engineering from the University of Benin (UNIBEN) sought to be a grave digger abroad after his efforts to get a better job failed and had also sought help for a wife in Asaba through his relation who works in one of the state owned ministries.

It was gathered that when his photograph was sent to the lady, she cherished it and kept it in her handbag wherever she went, and showed it to her friends, who did not hide their admiration of the overseas-based ‘lover’. The duo allegedly talked on phone frequently and also planned their wedding, which their communities eagerly waited to witness.

The date for the traditional marriage was slated for last month as her parents insisted the wedding must hold in Benin City, the Edo State thereafter. Her parents’ residence at Ogbeawo, was decorated. Last Thursday, family members including friends were assembled while an Asaba-based comedian “Frank De Don” was on hand to add colour to the show and after the bride price paid, both families engaged the floor for a dance. As guests were wining and dancing, the unexpected happened when the bride and the groom to take their turn to dance: they were both nowhere to be found.

Naomi narrates her how she was poured acid on her face

20 year old Naomi Oni told The Evening Standard that she was on her way back from work , Sunday December 30th in Lodge Avenue Dagenham, east London, when  she heard someone behind her:
'I’d been working a late shift and was talking to my boyfriend about what we were going to do for New Year when I saw this Muslim woman wearing a niqab covering her face. I thought it was a bit strange at that time of night, but she didn’t say anything and I kept on walking.
'Then I felt a splash on my face. It burned and I screamed out. I started running and screaming, holding my face, all the way home. I didn’t look back. I got home and I was screaming and banging on the door. I was hysterical. Luckily my godmother, who is a pharmacist, was at home with my mum and she helped me and kept dipping my face in water and trying to calm me down until the police and ambulance got there.

'I was in shock. Saying: "Who would do that? Who would do that?" How could anyone do this?'. Naomi recently released photos of her disfigured face after police failed to find the person who did this to her. She's now appealing to the public to help her catch her attacker. She said she would never feel safe with her attacker still at large. She also said the attack has destroyed her life 'I look in the mirror and it just isn’t me. I’ll never look the same again.

I’ve always been outgoing and confident in my job and in my personal life, used to getting attention for the way I dress or my hair, but now I don’t want anyone looking at me. I don’t want people to see me in public. I don’t want to get the Tube or the bus. If I have to go to the hospital I take a taxi. 'I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to go back to my job.

I was planning to go to college in September to study media and fashion, but I don’t even know if I’ll be able to do that. Even with the support of my family and friends and boyfriend I feel very alone,' she said. 'Nothing is going to be same anymore.'

Odemwingie Embarrasses Himself On National TV, West Brom disappointed

Nigerian-born foward, Peter Odemwingie faces an awkward return to West Brom after the club admitted they were "disappointed" by his "unprofessional" attempts to secure a deadline day transfer to QPR.

Odemwingie - seemingly of his own volition - made the drive down to Loftus Road on Thursday evening, in a bid to push through a move to the relegation-threatened Premier League club, despite West Brom refusing to grant him permission after a deal had proven impossible to agree.

The Midlands side were forced to issue a statement confirming that they had not granted Odemwingie permission to travel to London, while QPR did not allow the Nigeria international to enter their stadium as they were eager not to "disrespect" the Baggies.

The statement read: "Albion can confirm that no agreement was reached with QPR over the transfer of Peter Odemwingie before the closure of the January window and that the striker remains under contract at The Hawthorns. "The club were extremely disappointed to witness TV footage of Odemwingie arriving at Loftus Road on Thursday evening despite further talks between the two Premier League sides proving fruitless. Odemwingie was also never given permission to speak to QPR about a potential move." Meanwhile, West Brom chairman Jeremy Peace claims Odemwingie has tarnished his reputation and must see out the remainder of his contract.

"This evening's developments have brought a conclusion to what has been an unsavoury affair," Peace said. "The only way we would have considered letting Peter leave was if an acceptable offer was forthcoming and if we had found a suitable replacement at relatively short notice. "Neither materialised and, in the end, the matter became a point of principle as much as anything. Peter has acted wholly unprofessionally. He must now accept the fact he remains under contract for a further 18 months and has to focus on his Albion commitments." The saga prevented any prospect of the two sides reaching an agreement before Thursday's 11pm transfer deadline, with Odemwingie likely to face tough questions upon his return to The Hawthorns. Redknapp defended Odemwingie against suggestions the striker knew what he was doing in making the trip down, suggesting that the unusual incident was a result of mis-communication. "I think he probably felt the deal had been agreed between the clubs and it hadn't," Redknapp told Sky Sports. "Just a bit of a mix-up really.

I feel sorry for the lad and the way the whole thing has turned out. "It wasn't any of our doing. I think maybe he was advised that he should turn up here, that an offer had been accepted but the wires got crossed somewhere. It's too late [to do a deal] now." QPR's disappointment surrounding Odemwingie was tempered by a number of acquisitions on deadline day, however. Having completed the signing of Christopher Samba earlier in the day, QPR further strengthened with the addition of Jermaine Jenas from Tottenham on an 18-month deal.

The Spurs midfielder was joined by a former team-mate, Andros Townsend, who has moved to Loftus Road on a loan arrangement until the end of the season. "We've got the two lads from Tottenham," Redknapp added. "The two loans. Andros I think has good potential to be a good player so it's good to get him in."
