PDP issues statement on death of Gov Yakowa, and former NSA Azazi

Chief Olisa Metuh,National Publicity Secretary statement over the great loss of Gov Yakowa, and former NSA Azazi he made yesterday:
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed utter shock and devastating grief at the news of the death of the Executive Governor of Kaduna State, Mr. Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa and other prominent Nigerians, including the former National Security Adviser, General Owoye Azazi in a helicopter crash today.
Our great Party is shocked beyond imagination and no words can adequately give expression to the depth of our grief. What a colossal loss!
"The nation has lost a great patriot who in about two years in saddle as the Governor of Kaduna State demonstrated an unyielding capacity in wielding together varying fragile interests. He rendered quality stewardship to his people. Even in the face of daunting security challenges, nothing came close to compromising his iron cast resolve and faith that the phase must certainly pass. It is unfortunate that the nation has lost him at this critical curve in our national history.”

"On behalf of the National Executive Committee and other members of the PDP, the National Chairman of our great Party, Dr. Bamanga Tukur wishes to condole with the government and the people of Kaduna State as well as the family of late Governor Yakowa on this very painful loss. Your tear is our broken heart!”

“We wish to also send our heart felt condolence to the family of General Azazi as well as to the families of other Nigerians involved in the unfortunate crash. We beseech God to give them the strength to withstand this harshest sting of the painful loss of dear ones.”

Kidnappers demanding N200 million ransom for Titilayo return

Former governor of Western State, Brigadier General Oluwole Rotimi, (rtd)’s wife,Mrs. Tayo Rotimi was grabbed in front of her company, AOP Logistics Limited, on New Ife Road at about 6:30pm by four armed hefty unknown gunmen. She was leaving the office after the close of work. The kidnappers are demanding N200 million ransom.

Five of the company’s workers are being held by the police, who have launched a search for the abductors. The home of Gen. Rotimi, a former military governor of the Western Region in Ikolaba, Ibadan, was deserted yesterday. Oyo State police spokesman Ayodele Lanade said: “It is true the woman was kidnapped on Monday at about 6.30pm. Our men are on the trail of the criminals.” It was learnt that the abductors came in a green Nissan Primera car, which they drove in reverse into the company’s gate.

The police said they suspected a foul play, considering the manner the kidnappers drove into the premises and forced their victim into their car . Lanade said “the incident was different from other cases of kidnapping in some parts of the country because, in this case, we learnt that the driver of the woman was with the abductors when they took her away. “And we found out that there is a rift between the woman and her workers because she was said to be owing them three months salary and there was agitation by the aggrieved workers. “In the course of demanding for their unpaid three months salary, some of them were sacked .

So, it seems there is a foul play in this case. It’s not in anyway related to other kidnapping cases in Southeast and Southsouth ,” the police spokesman said. The company’s workers were praying yesterday for the quick release of their managing director. General Manager Mr Omini Ikpi recounted how she was abducted. He said: “The MD was about driving out of the gate when she was abducted by four gunmen who blocked her with a grey Nissan car. They shot sporadically into the air to scare people away.” Ikpi said at the time of her kidnap, Mrs Rotimi had her bag containing two BlackBerry phones, a laptop and other valuables. Her shoes dropped when she was being dragged away from her black Prado into the kidnappers’ car. “Immediately she was kidnapped, Egbeda police station was contacted and they brought a patrol van. I believe there is an informant in this company.

The police have arrested three of our security guards and two workers while the investigation is still on going.” The Chief Security Officer of the company, Mr Usman Illiasu, said although he was not on duty during the incident, he was told by security men on duty that the abductors came with sophisticated weapons. Illiasu said around 4pm (yesterday), Mrs Rotimi’s phone was called and it was picked by a male voice who said she will be killed if her family members failed to bring N200 million for her to be released.

He said:” The driver of her car has been arrested with other co-workers, and our workers here could not work today (yesterday) and we have all been praying for the safety and quick release of our boss.”

Dissolving Female Condoms

New Invention means more Men can have 'Safe' sex without wearing a condom
A female condom which can protect against pregnancy and sexual diseases by dissolving inside the body has been developed.

Experts claim the 'discreet protection' can safeguard people from HIV and unwanted pregnancy by 'melting' and releasing chemicals.
Researchers at the University of Washington (UW) developed the condom from tiny microfibres through a method called 'electrospinning'.

The cloth-like fibres can be woven from medicine into extremely thin 'webs' They are then designed to dissolve after use, either within minutes or over several days. Not only would the condom block sperm, it could time-release a potent mix of anti-HIV drugs and hormonal contraceptives.

The team was given $1m to develop the technology, which uses an electric field to charge fluid through air to create the very fine, nanometer-sized fibres.

The search for the mother of the minister of Finance, 82 year old Prof. Mabel Kameni Okonjo released from kidnappers took a new twist Tuesday with the minister of Police Affairs, Navy Capt. Speaking at the opening of a two-day workshop on 'Budgeting for Effective Policing in Nigeria', the minister who expressed sadness at the kidnapping incident said, "It is a very disturbing issue. In unraveling this matter, the Police must take into cognizance that we have a role to let other know that such incidents will be given equal treatment. It could have been the mother of anybody'.

"Already, the IGP has deployed his men and they are working round the clock on the issue. The IG is on top of the situation. However, I have instructed the IGP to deploy specialist officers from Abuja if need be, to help in fishing out the culprits".

Convenant University expels 200 students

"The University authorities of Covenant University, Canaanland, Ota in Ogun state, last Saturday expelled over 200 students for varied offences.
A source told DailyPost that trouble started when the Chancellor of the institution,Bishop David Oyedepo visited the school chapel unannounced and noticed that some students were loitering around the chapel, some talking and others were playing while the Vice Chancellor was giving a speech in the school’s chapel.

Their strict chancellor was very angry towards the attitude of the students and immediately called on the Dean of Student Affairs, Mr Bassey, for a brief meeting outside the chapel, while other members of staff including the VC joined in the meeting too.

DailyPost also gathered that the students knowing the sanctions that can befall them started running into the chapel, scrambling for available seats while some boys who did not have ties on where seen looking for ways to acquire some, even a group of boys numbering up to five allegedly took a girl’s scarf and ripped it to shreds using the parts to produce makeshift ties in an attempt not to get into trouble. DailyPost source reported that shortly after the brief meeting, the institution’s Education Secretary, Mrs.Aize Obayan addressed the students, but noticed that as she was speaking, the students were murmuring.

The Chancellor then walked up to the podium and politely took the microphone from Mrs Obayan and said ”if i hear the voice of any student, the curse of the lord shall fall upon that one” and immediately, the chapel went dead silent. The following this unruly behaviour of the students, the Chancellor spoke on the topic Discipline and his vision for the university that night and immediately he finished, the VC asked all students present to wait behind because a search was going to be carried out in all the halls in order to fish out students who did not attend the service.

He revealed that twenty-five final year students were caught, undisclosed number of lower level students while two others were caught smoking marijuana.
