Nigerians warned about sending their Children to Universities in Ukraine

Nigerian Ambassador to Ukraine, Frank Ngozi Isoh, has advised Nigerians to be wary of sending their children to English Language training institutions as Ukrainians are not proficient in the language.

In September, the National Universities Commission (NUC) had said some states sponsor students to sub-standard universities and Ukraine was one of the countries mentioned.
Isoh said, “One thing I will like to say about education in this place, and this is something we intend to package in a report to government to see how this can be propagated back home - I do not think that Nigerians get the best when it comes to studying in this place in the English language.”

Isoh said the lure for most parents is the low cost of tuition which is about $3,000 for a course that could cost up to $20,000 in the United States or Canada. But despite this advantage he said, “The people who teach them in English language are natives of this country who are also not very proficient in the language.” Isoh who also commented on universities offering medical courses said, “We don’t think that Nigerian medical doctors trained in English speaking universities here get the best.

But those who endeavour to learn the language and then attend lectures with the natives certainly get better trained.” He said his best advice to parents would be to get the children to study the local language first to get the best of their education system.

Executive Secretary of NUC Professor Julius Okojie also made reference to a university in Ukraine where there are over 800 medical students and some of the students do not have the qualification in basic sciences.

Nigerian Pilgrims Plane Not Allowed To Land In Saudi Arabia, Forced To Land In Sudan

Kabo aircraft, conveying Nigerian pilgrims to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia had to make a forced landing in Sudan capital, Khartoum, Wednesday, over its airworthiness. The aircraft, with registration number N9-1143, was conveying pilgrims from Kaduna State but denied landing by the authorities of the King Abdul-Aziz International Airport, Jeddah due to communication lapses as regards its condition.

It was gathered that the Saudi aviation authorities denied landing permit to the aircraft after it had entered its (Saudi) airspace. The refusal forced the pilot to make a detour to neighbouring Khartoum airport to enable Saudi and Nigerian aviation authorities resolve the issue of the aircraft’s airworthiness.

Saturday Sun gathered that a routine maintenance check had been conducted on the aircraft and certified air worthy by the Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) before it left Nigeria in the early hours of Wednesday. But the information on the routine check has not gotten to the Saudi aviation authorities as at the time the aircraft entered the Saudi airspace.

Head of Media, National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON), Mallam Uba Mana, confirmed the issue but said the aircraft, which had 523 pilgrims on board, had since landed at the King Abdul-Aziz International Airport, Jeddah late afternoon of Wednesday.

He said the matter had nothing to do with the ongoing row over male guides to female pilgrims or any technical problem but due to communication lapses.

Uniport HOD Removed For Participating In Protest Against Murder Of Aluu-4

Human rights groups and the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) have called on the authorities of the University of Port Harcourt (UNIPORT), Rivers State, to reinstate a former Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), UNIPORT chapter, Dr. Andrew Efemini, as the Head of Department of Philosophy.

Efemini was removed as the HOD, shortly after participating in Tuesday’s protest at Choba Junction on the East-West Road, against the murder of four UNIPORT students at Omuokiri-Aluu in Ikwerre Local

Government Area on October 5. The four male victims were Biringa Chiadika Lordson, Year Two, Theatre Arts, U2010/1805036; Ugonna Kelechi Obuzor, Year Two, Geology, U2010/5565149 and Mike Lloyd Toku, Year Two, Civil Engineering, U2010/3010094 and Tekena Erikena, a certificate student in the Faculty of Education, who had not completed his registration before the gruesome murder.

The Centre for Environment, Human Rights and Development (CEHRD), through its Director of Operations, Styvn Obodoekwe, yesterday in Port Harcourt, condemned the removal of the activist lecturer, which it said was unjust. ACN on its part said: “We demand the immediate reversal of the removal of Dr. Efemini as the HOD, Philosophy of UNIPORT.

The vice-chancellor’s decision to remove him for participating in last Tuesday’s protest is condemnable, irrational, unlawful, ungodly and provocative.”

Forbes list of Nigeria’s richest Pastors

People view the wealth of men of God from different angles. Some think there’s nothing wrong living a good life filled with abundant wealth, others believe men of God are supposed to have just enough to get by and their calling do not require excess.
In all fairness everyone has a right to their opinion:

1. Bishop David Oyedepo

Affiliation: Living Faith World Outreach Ministry, aka Winners Chapel
Estimated net worth: $150 million
David Oyedepo is Nigeria’s wealthiest preacher. Ever since he founded the Living Faith World Outreach Ministry in 1981, it has grown to become one of Africa’s largest congregations. The Faith Tabernacle, where he hosts three services every Sunday, is Africa’s largest worship center, with a seating capacity of 50,000. Oyedepo owns four private jets and homes in London and the United States. He also owns Dominion Publishing House, a thriving publishing company that publishes all his books (which are often centered on prosperity). He founded and owns Covenant University, one of Nigeria’s leading tertiary institutions, and Faith Academy, an elite high school.

2. Chris Oyakhilome Church: Believers’ Loveworld Ministries, a.k.a Christ Embassy Estimated net worth: $30 million – $50 million Last year, the charismatic preacher was at the center of a $35 million money laundering case in which he was accused of siphoning funds from his church to foreign banks. Pastor Chris pleaded no wrongdoing and the case was eventually dismissed. His church, Christ Embassy, boasts more than 40,000 members, several of whom are successful business executives and politicians. Oyakhilome’s diversified interests include newspapers, magazines, a local television station, a record label, satellite TV, hotels and extensive real estate. His Loveworld TV Network is the first Christian network to broadcast from Africa to the rest of the world on a 24 hour basis.

 3. Temitope Joshua Church: Synagogue Church Of All Nations (SCOAN) Estimated net worth: $10 million – $15 million Nigeria’s most controversial clergyman is also one of its richest and most philanthropic. T.B Joshua heads the Synagogue Church of all Nations (SCOAN), a congregation he founded in 1987, which accommodates over 15,000 worshippers on Sundays. The Pastor has remained controversial for several years for his inexplicable powers to heal all sorts of incurable diseases, including HIV/AIDS, cancer and paralysis. For miracle-craving worshippers, it’s the perfect seduction. The church currently has branches in Ghana, the United Kingdom, South Africa, and Greece. In the past three years, he has given over $20 million to causes in education, healthcare and rehabilitation programs for former Niger Delta militants. He owns Emmanuel TV, a Christian television network, and is close friends with Ghanaian President Atta Mills.

Kingsway International Christian Centre (KICC) Estimated net worth: $6 million – $10 million In 1992, Foursquare Gospel Church, a Nigerian church, sent Ashimolowo to open a satellite branch in London. But Pastor Matthew had other ideas and decided to set up his own church instead. Today, his Kingsway International Christian Center is reportedly the largest Pentecostal church in the United Kingdom. In 2009, the church posted profits of close to $10 million and assets worth $40 million. Ashimolowo earns an annual salary of $200,000, but his real wealth comes from varied business interests including his media company, Matthew Ashimolowo media, which churns out Christian literature and documentaries. Ashimolowo’s representatives did not respond to a request confirming his net worth and ownership of all these assets.

 5. Chris Okotie Church: Household of God Church Net worth: $3 million -$10 million Pastor Okotie made his first success as a popular pop musician in the 80s. He found the light, embraced the bible and set up the Household of God Church, one of Nigeria’s most flamboyant congregations. His 5,000 member church consists predominantly of Nollywood celebrities, musicians, and society people. He contested and lost Nigerian presidential elections for the third time this year under the Fresh Party, a political party he founded and funds. An automobile lover, he owns a Mercedes S600, Hummer and Porsche among several others.

Austrian Man makes Record-Breaking Jump from SPACE to Planet EARTH

Austrian, Felix Baumgartner jumped from the edge of space Sunday, freefalling for several minutes before opening his parachute, descending and landing safely back on Earth.

It was not immediately clear if the 43-year-old succeeded in breaking the sound barrier with the fastest freefall ever as he plummeted from an altitude of more than 24 miles (39 kilometers) and fell for over five minutes.

Television pictures showed him opening his parachute at about 5,000 feet and guiding himself back toward ground. Baumgartner had taken more than two hours to get up to the jump altitude.

He had already broken one record, before he even leapt: the previous highest altitude for a manned balloon flight was 113,740 feet, set in 1961.

Planes prevented from landing at the Abuja Airport due to V.I.P, Presidential movement and poor weather

For over three hours on Saturday evening, planes were prevented from landing at the Nnamdi Azikiwe Airport Abuja due to ‘Very Important Persons’ movement and bad weather.

Our correspondent gathered that flights that were to land at the airport between 4pm and 7pm were forced to divert to adjoining airports, while others chose to return to where they came from.

An Aero flight AJ 127 which left Lagos at about 3pm was forced to return to Lagos after hovering in the air at the Abuja airport for over 45 minutes due to presidential movement and poor weather. The plane landed back at Lagos airport around 5:30pm. However, the flight later departed for Abuja again at about 7pm and landed safely in Abuja airport at about 7.50pm.

Aero later said, “There was VIP movement and bad weather. The flight later returned to Abuja with passengers.” Spokesman for the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency, Mr. Supo Atobatele, could not be reached for comments. Calls made to his telephone lines did not go through.

EFCC traces N1bn property to former Bayelsa gov

A competent source in the commission told Saturday Vanguard last night that the property which worth over N1 billion were traced to companies owned by Sylva.

The source said that the property, which are located in choice areas of Abuja, were discovered in the ongoing investigation into how Sylva looted Bayelsa during his tenure as the governor of the state.

The source added that the anti- graft agency had also uncovered a network of fronts through which the former governor acquired choice property in major cities especially Abuja, the Federal Capital Territory.

One of the properties linked to the former governor is a duplex valued at N310m situated at Cachez Estate, Mpape, Abuja while the other is a mansion valued at N700m located off Ademola Adetokunbo Crescent in high brow Wuse 2, Abuja. The Wuse mansion was acquired in the name of Marlin Maritime Limited, a company owned by Timipre Sylva.

The managing Director of the Company, Gbenga Balogun, is said to have fled as EFCC operatives closed in on him in the course of investigation of the Sylva era in Bayelsa, during which billions of naira is said to have been looted by him and his officials. In spite of the escapee of the fronts, the operatives of the commission are reported to be working round the clock to arrest the culprits and bring them to account for the public funds. Several accounts have already been traced to the front (name withheld) who allegedly opened many of them in his name using different passport photographs.

The front, (name withheld) is currently on the run. Meanwhile, Sylva is already standing trial before a Federal High Court in Abuja on a six-count charge bordering on fraud and money laundering. But in a swift reaction, the spokesman for Timipre Sylva, Mr. Ola Doife, challenged EFCC to stop trying the former governor in the media but to collate any evidence at its disposal and present it in court since the matter was already pending.

Doife maintained that Sylva remained innocent of the charges until proved otherwise by a competent court of jurisdiction in the land.

Stephanie Okereke-Linus openly condemned Aluu killings of the four students

Why do we permit jungle justice? Do we feel helpless with the system thus take justice into our own hands? What are our fears? What would ever justify the actions of a community that stole the lives of students who lived amongst them – lives that only God can give?

We may never know the truth of what really led to the killings at Aluu – that truth died with the four of them. All we can ask is for justice. That is the only way the tears of the mothers of these young lives may dry. It is the only way we all can feel safe because no matter the situation, lives should not be snatched so brutally. This is a society with laws.

As we seek for what is right, let death not procure more deaths. We do not need to burn down Aluu community. We do not need to shed more blood. Not every child, mother and father in the community killed or endorsed the killing of the young men. They too deserve to be protected from the brutality that has ensued from all of this. Life is a beautiful thing; do not steal another’s opportunity to experience it. May their deaths not be in vain.

I just extracted the most part that caught my eyes.
