Tony Scott commits suicide at the age of 68years ---- jumping off from 185feet bridge

Tony Scott, director Hollywood hits  "Top Gun," ''Days of Thunder" and "Beverly Hills Cop II," died Sunday after jumping from a Los Angeles County bridge.

Several people called 911 around 12:35 p.m. to report that someone had jumped from the Vincent Thomas Bridge spanning San Pedro and Terminal Island in Los Angeles Harbor, according to Los Angeles police Lt. Tim Nordquist.

The British-born Scott, who lived in Beverly Hills, was producer and director Ridley Scott's younger brother. Distinct visual styles mark both siblings' films — Ridley Scott mastering the creation of entire worlds with such films as "Gladiator," ''Blade Runner," ''Alien" and this year's "Prometheus," Tony Scott known for hyper-kinetic action and editing on such films as his most recent, the runaway train thriller "Unstoppable," starring regular collaborator Denzel Washington.

A suicide note was later found at his office.

Scott was married to actress Donna Scott, who appeared in several of her husband's films. They have twin sons.

Gunmen invade prison in Edo State, free 12 inmates

Heavily armed men on Sunday invaded the Oko Minimum Prison in, freeing 12 inmates.

The entire neighbourhood of the prison was woken up by heavy shootings and explosions which occurred at the early hours of today forcing many families to abandon their homes.

The daredevil gunmen attacked the prison gate, overpowered the prison Arms Squard with explosives, believed to be improvised no fewer than 12 inmates, which led to the escape of 12 prisoners.

According to a resident of Oko community, Edokpayi, the suddenness of the attack and the noise of the explosion caused pandemonium among the people living in and around the prison.

“The entire neighbourhood of the prison was woken up by heavy shootings and explosions which occurred at the early hours of today forcing many families to abandon their homes,” he said.

Relatives and family members of inmates besieged the prison when the news spread around the State capital.

Edo State Controller of Prisons, Ewulo F. O. who confirmed the incident said that the incident was being investigated.

 Meanwhile, the Edo State Police spokesperson, Anthony Airhuoyo, said the State Command is yet to be briefed by the Divisional Police Officer, (DPO) in charge of the area.

Atlantic Ocean Surge Kills unknown number of people In Lagos

 

Shanties swallowed in the ocean surge at Kuramo Beach Victoria Island in Lagos,yesterday after the Atlantic Ocean overflowed its banks, leveling the popular relaxation spot, Kuramo Beach, leaving  unknown number of people were dead, so far six bodies have been discovered and more missing.

Clifford Orji dies in Kirikiri prisons

Clifford Orji was arrested in February 1999 by the police under the bridge at Toyota Bus Stop along the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway in Lagos; he was arrested based on his life style ------- roasted one of his victims at the time and eaten part of her flesh. The police believed Clifford was mad at the time he was arrested but there was a theory back then that his madness was fake; that ritualists put him under that bridge to act like he was mad, find victims, kill them and sell their body parts to them.

He died on Friday August 17th in his sleep. He was 46 years old.

Auto-accident saves kidnapped victim

For an accident involving the vehicle used by her kidnappers taking her out of the city to an unknown destination, a 26 years old woman, Annabel Erikowa who was abducted from her father’s hotel may have become a forgotten victim of the kidnap syndicate.

She was rescued by the Police based at Iguobazuwa, Ovia South Local government area of Edo state at Ofusu where the accident occurred.

Annabel who works in her father’s resort located at Ibeju-Lekki area of Lagos State was abducted by four gunmen last week who forced her into their vehicle after blind folding her.

The kidnappers were heading to an unknown destination when the vehicle in which they conveyed their victim crashed around Ofosu town, along Benin-Lagos highway.

The Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of operations, Edo Command, Mr. Agberebi Egbuson disclosed that the Police in Iguobazuwa division on receipt of a distress call of an accident, rushed to the scene. They were however amazed when four of the five accident victims that they were supposed to rescue took to their heels on sighting the police.

 “When the policemen approached the scene, four young men around the vehicle took to their heels. We later realized that they were actually kidnappers as a young girl was found inside,” the DCP disclosed.

Narrating her ordeal in the hands of her abductors, Annabel said she was in her father’s hotel in Lagos when four heavily armed men ordered her to a waiting vehicle and later blind folded her while they embarked on a long journey.

Annabel who has since re-united with her family could not say what led to the accident or where it occurred but affirmed that police’s arrival scene made her abductors to abandon her.

A wife killed her husband by setting fire to him in bed has been found guilty of murder.
 Georgina Pontes Furtado Vilela, 47, was sentenced to 23 years in prison after being convicted of murder and arson with intent to endanger life at Wolverhampton Crown Court earlier today.

During the two week trial the court heard how HIV-positive Vilela had suffered from depression and felt 'like an incomplete woman' as a result of not being able to bear Mr Vilela children.

Upcoming musicians arraigned for raping teenager

Two upcoming musicians have been charged before an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling a 17 year-old girl.

Ekene Ozor, 24, and Daniel Eni, 21, are standing trial before Magistrate M.B. Folami for allegedly forcing their penises into the mouth and vagina of Nancy Amaka.
 
Prosecuting Corporal Oladejo Balogun told the court that the accused committed the crime on August 5, about 12pm at 10, Joe Ejeye Street, Ejigbo. He said they conspired to have sex with Nancy Nkechi Abia Amaka. He added that the offenses contravened Sections 409 and 259 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2011.

The story was that Ekene invited the victim who had just finished secondary school for a musical video shoot and when she came, instead of taking her to the location, he locked her inside his room.

 After locking his door and removing the keys, he forced the victim to remove her clothes and started taking nude pictures of her.

 “When he had finished snapping me, he said he was going to post my naked pictures on the Internet if I refused to suck his penis,” Amaka told the court. She said after having sex with her, Ekene went and called his friend, who also took turn.After they had satisfied themselves she said, the victim seized her ATM card in a bid to extort money from her, and to blackmail her.

According to the report,she said she told her parents about the incident and they reported the case at the Ejigbo Police Station, following which they were arrested.

The accused pleaded not guilty and were granted N500,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum. 

Folami adjourned the matter till August 31.

The English teacher turned herself in to police last year after a 19-year-old boy reported to authorities. A student testified in court yesterday about text messages the pair exchanged and how the teacher had described herself as an "anything goes in sex kind of girl". He said he had sex with Colleps five times and four of those times had other students present and evidence to that was shown in the video which members of the jury watched The case is still in court.

Wizkid fans in Oakland, California have expressed their bitter disappointment at the record label EME for cancelling a Wizkid concert which was to hold Friday, August 17, 2012.

On August 14, four days before the concert EME boss Banky W via micro-blogging site Twitter had announced the cancellation of the Wizkid tour;

 ‘Hey folks… The Cali and Canada stops on the tour have unfortunately been canceled. Due to circumstances way beyond anyone’s control’, @BankyW tweeted.

‘Truthfully it takes a lot to put on a tour. A million & one factors go into it. Along the way, sadly, sometimes, inevitably, things go wrong. And when it’s out of your control, There’s not much you can do about it at that point but learn lessons & do better next time.. Truth be told, we take a pay cut while attempting something like this. A serious one. But that’s okay cuz of the love the fans have shown us. And the love we have for them in return‘, he explained.
