Upcoming musicians arraigned for raping teenager

Two upcoming musicians have been charged before an Ejigbo Magistrate’s Court for allegedly defiling a 17 year-old girl.

Ekene Ozor, 24, and Daniel Eni, 21, are standing trial before Magistrate M.B. Folami for allegedly forcing their penises into the mouth and vagina of Nancy Amaka.
 
Prosecuting Corporal Oladejo Balogun told the court that the accused committed the crime on August 5, about 12pm at 10, Joe Ejeye Street, Ejigbo. He said they conspired to have sex with Nancy Nkechi Abia Amaka. He added that the offenses contravened Sections 409 and 259 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos 2011.

The story was that Ekene invited the victim who had just finished secondary school for a musical video shoot and when she came, instead of taking her to the location, he locked her inside his room.

 After locking his door and removing the keys, he forced the victim to remove her clothes and started taking nude pictures of her.

 “When he had finished snapping me, he said he was going to post my naked pictures on the Internet if I refused to suck his penis,” Amaka told the court. She said after having sex with her, Ekene went and called his friend, who also took turn.After they had satisfied themselves she said, the victim seized her ATM card in a bid to extort money from her, and to blackmail her.

According to the report,she said she told her parents about the incident and they reported the case at the Ejigbo Police Station, following which they were arrested.

The accused pleaded not guilty and were granted N500,000 bail with two sureties in the like sum. 

Folami adjourned the matter till August 31.

The English teacher turned herself in to police last year after a 19-year-old boy reported to authorities. A student testified in court yesterday about text messages the pair exchanged and how the teacher had described herself as an "anything goes in sex kind of girl". He said he had sex with Colleps five times and four of those times had other students present and evidence to that was shown in the video which members of the jury watched The case is still in court.

Nigerians are disappointed over cancellation of Wizkid's concert’s in Califonia

Wizkid fans in Oakland, California have expressed their bitter disappointment at the record label EME for cancelling a Wizkid concert which was to hold Friday, August 17, 2012.

On August 14, four days before the concert EME boss Banky W via micro-blogging site Twitter had announced the cancellation of the Wizkid tour;

 ‘Hey folks… The Cali and Canada stops on the tour have unfortunately been canceled. Due to circumstances way beyond anyone’s control’, @BankyW tweeted.

‘Truthfully it takes a lot to put on a tour. A million & one factors go into it. Along the way, sadly, sometimes, inevitably, things go wrong. And when it’s out of your control, There’s not much you can do about it at that point but learn lessons & do better next time.. Truth be told, we take a pay cut while attempting something like this. A serious one. But that’s okay cuz of the love the fans have shown us. And the love we have for them in return‘, he explained.

Child abuse – 9year old house help burnt with an electric iron.

Reports has it that 9 year old Chinenye Emeka got her buttocks burnt with hot electric pressing iron by her guardian, Mrs. Ifechukwu Akabekwa.
The main story behind the incident, as gathered was  this happened because Chinenye used the money given to her by a philanthropist to pay her school fees without the permission of her guardian.
 Before now Mrs Akabekwa, of Abazuonu Street in Iyi-Owa Odekpe, Anambra state, maltreated and gave Chinenye a hell for a life and constantly forced her to hawk along the major road of Atani during school hours. And when a stranger tried to help little Chinenye, the mother of three got so mad, she scarred the little girl for life.

Did you know? Eating Egg Yolks is as dangerous as Smoking cigarettes

Dr David Spence revealed eating the yolk of an egg is about two-thirds as bad as smoking when it comes to the build up of plaques.

Having surveyed 1,231 men and women, Dr Spence, of the University of Western Ontario, London, Canada, linked the findings to stroke and heart attack risk factors.

Plaque rupture is the usual cause of most heart attacks and many strokes.
The study involved patients, with an average age of 61.5, attending vascular prevention clinics in Ontario.

Ultrasound was used to establish a measurement of total plaque area and questionnaires were filled out regarding the patients’ lifestyles.
The research found carotid plaque area increased in line with age after 40, but increased above the average rise after years of regular smoking and egg yolk consumption.

The study also found those eating at least three yolks a week had significantly more plaque area than those who ate up to two yolks per week.

Dr Spence, 67, who is also a neurology professor, said: 'The mantra ‘eggs can be part of a healthy diet for healthy people’ has confused the issue.

'High cholesterol intake increases the risk of cardiovascular events, and egg yolks have a very high cholesterol content.

 'The study shows that, with age, plaque builds up gradually in the arteries and egg yolks make it build up faster.' Dr Spence added that the effects were independent of s.ex, cholesterol, blood pressure, smoking, body mass index and diabetes.

 He said that While he feels more research should be done, he stressed the regular consumption of egg yolk should be avoided by persons at risk of cardiovascular disease.

Photojournalist with LEADERSHIP newspaper’s assailant is being interrogated

The assailant has been identified as Bayo Ogunshola, son of the owner of Lekan Ogunshola Memorial Morgue, the concessionaire to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital (LASUTH) morgue, Mrs. Taiwo Ogunsola.

Ogunshola and six others are presently under interrogation at Area F Police Station.
Meanwhile, LASUTH has invited Mr. Uwalaka to an investigative panel set up to look into his maltreatment by workers of the morgue.

According to a letter made available to LEADERSHIP, the panel will hold its sittings at 11am on Friday, August 17, at the psychiatry head of department’s office.

Law firms, Hospitality businesses, others to register with EFCC

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has directed individuals and organizations who own hotels, casinos, jewellery shops, and law firms to register with the anti-corruption agency before opening accounts in banks as directed by the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN).

The Commission’s spokesman, Wilson Uwujaren stated on Monday that the listed institutions categorized as Designated Non-Financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBPs) are to show evidence of registering with the Special Control Unit against Money Laundering (SCUML) domiciled within the EFCC before opening accounts in commercial banks.

Mr. Uwujaren added that the registration with SCUML has received support from the CBN to make it a key ‘Know Your Customer’ requirement for opening DNFBPs in financial institutions. “The directive contained in a circular referenced FPR/CIR/GEN/VOL.1.028 dated 2nd of August, 2012 and titled Additional Know Your Customer Requirement in Respect of Designated Non-financial Businesses and Professions (DNFBPs), mandates all financial institutions, prior to establishing business relationships with (DNFBPs), to obtain evidence of registration with SCUML.” EFCC said.

Kaduna: IED blasts 4 to death

Earlier today in Kaduna state a bomb explosion occurred in the northern city, killing four people.
The explosion is said to have occurred along the busy Ali Akilu road in the city centre.
The Improvised Explosive device, IED went off accidentally in the hands of two men who are believed to be members of the Boko Haram Sect, as they rode on motorcycles.
According to a witness who follows CP on Twitter @Momudee, the explosion happened opposite Sterling Bank. A loud bang was heard, shattering glass and shaking buildings in the area.
The exact number of casualties is yet to be ascertained as at the time of filing this report.
