D’banj a security guard, nine years ago on Stratford
Is this case of ‘NEVER
DESPISE YOUR LITTLE BEGINNING?’
Celebrating the success of the Nigeria artist, the television station featured an overwhelming reaction, D’banj got from students of Plumsted Manor School, when he paid a surprise visit to the all-girls school.
According to the entertainment reporter for ITV, D’banj had to hide from the school girls and this is what happens now, everywhere he goes.
Humble D’banj, expressed his joy at the reception and success of his decade-long career which has earned his debut single in the UK, a place on the t0p 10 of the billboard chart.
He recalled how he called his mother to express his joy over the achievement in a country where he was a security guard, less than a decade ago.
It is so amazing, because nine yaers ago, I was doing security here in London, and nine years now, for me to number nine in the whole UK with my first single is just humbling.”
The students in a very frenzy mood all cheered and screamed as D’banj walked into the sports room.
Affirming his international appeal and meteoric stardom rise across borders, the female students sang enthusiastically to the Oliver Twist track, as D’banj taught a few of them the famous Oliver twist dance moves.
D’banj, who returned to Nigeria after a few of years in the UK launched a great career that has propelled him to become one of Africa’s best musical acts.
He was recently signed on Kanye West’s GOOD Music record label which has led to a disheartening split from his friend and producer, Don Jazzy.

To many, the founder of Facebook Mark Zuckerberg is getting a lot of
flack for being cheap with his bride, Pricilla Chan, who he recently married in
a surprise ceremony at their backyard.
There was no fancy designer gown or venue, although it has been reported that Zuckerberg got a very expensive ruby ring which he terms as “very simple” worth $100,000 which he designed himself.

25 Suspected Chinese Illegal Immigrants in Lagos Arrested by the Nigerian Immigration Service
Yesterday in Lagos, 25 suspected illegal Chinese immigrants were arrested during a routine raid by the Lagos State command of the Nigerian Immigration Service. This is following the arrest of 45 Chinese nationals comprising 34 male and 11 female by the Kano state command on Tuesday. They were arrested and detained for what it described as “economic scavenging” in the popular Kantin Kwari textile market in Kano.
The Chinese Nationals were arrested during routine raids around different parts of Lagos including China Town, Trade Fair Complex, Alaba International Market and some parts of Alausa.
According to the Zonal Controller of the Nigerian Immigration Service, Mr. Anthony Oklobia, those with genuine documents would be released after screening while others would be repatriated to China. “If we are able to remove as many as possible of those who have no business staying in this country, of course we are enhancing national security.”
He added that the raid was not only targeted at Chinese nationals. “The raid is not just targeted at Chinese. Surveillance reports tend to indicate that they are in the preponderance of non-Nigerians who come in with one kind of visa only to start doing another thing. Some of them even hawk on the streets in the market.”
A woman got fired for being “too hot”
The 29 year old Lauren Odes, said “We should not be judged by the size of our breasts or the shape of our body,”
A New Jersey woman said on Monday that she was dismissed from a temporary job at a New York lingerie warehouse because her male employers felt she was too busty and dressed too provocatively for the workplace.
Wearing a form-fitting sequined black dress and black leather, sequin-studded boots, Lauren Odes, 29, said her Orthodox Jewish employers at Native Intimates told her that outfit and others like it were “too hot” for the warehouse
Odes’s attorney, celebrity lawyer Gloria Allred, said she filed a gender and religious discrimination complaint with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission in New York.
Odes said she felt her wardrobe was appropriate for a business that sells “thongs with hearts placed in the female genital area and boy shorts for women that say ‘hot’ in the buttocks area.”
Media photographers climbed on chairs and crashed into each other as Odes held a pose and Allred held up a series of purple, black and brown outfits she said also led to the woman’s dismissal. Odes said that on successive days during her week-long employment in late April she was warned that her attire was too alluring, that her breasts should be taped down to make them look smaller, and that she was asked to wear a red bathrobe to cover one outfit.
“This whole experience has been horrifying to me,” she told reporters. “I love fashion and I always will, but I don’t believe any woman should be treated as I was.” Odes, whose said her duties included data entry and coordinating the shipping of samples to customers, said she eventually agreed to purchase a sweater to wear over her dress, but was dismissed anyway. “I understand that there are Orthodox Jewish men who may have their views about how a woman should dress … but I do not feel that any employer has the right to impose their religious beliefs on me,” she said.
An employee at the company had no immediate comment on Odes’ claims.
Five bank staff arrested for attempted robbery
The Lagos
State Police Command has apprehended 11 armed robbery suspects including five
workers of a commercial bank.
One of the
workers, a senior marketing executive of the bank’s branch in Gbagada, is
currently being interrogated by detectives at the state’s Special Anti-Robbery
Squad.
According to
reports made available to PUNCH Metro,
the senior marketing executive allegedly conspired with two security personnel
of the bank and two other staff to perpetrate the robbery of a customer who was
to deposit some money running into millions of naira.
The bank
workers were said to have invited one Sadiq, believed by the police to be a
notorious armed robber in the state, who in turn invited six other members of
his gang.
What excuse will these staff ever
come up with….talk of biting the hand that feeds one….I agree the salary might
not be fantastic but it sure does put food on their table?

The gang allegedly procured guns in Lagos and ordered for more from Edo State. The robbery was foiled when policemen through intelligence report got information of the planned robbery.
The policemen stormed the bank premises incognito on the day the robbery was to take place. It was learnt that one of the suspects had told the police that their weapons including two pistols were already concealed in the bank’s Computer Central Processing Unit with plans to use them on the day of the robbery. The robbers who pretended to be customers of the bank had dressed in suits while Sadiq wore a kaftan.
But they did not know that plain-clothed policemen had cordoned off the area while some other policemen were in the banking hall. A police source said, “The suspected robbers got more than what they expected when detectives rounded them up and whisked them to the state police command headquarters.” One of the suspects further confessed that the bank’s marketing executive gave them money to procure the arms and ammunition.
The Police Public Relations Officer, Mr. Joseph Jaiyeoba, confirmed the arrest in a telephone interview with our correspondent on Wednesday. He, however, said further investigations were still ongoing with a view of ensuring that all those connected with the incident were arrested. Jaiyeoba said, “The employees of the bank that were arrested were actually four in number. They planned with the security guard who then recruited armed robbers for them.
“The security guard’s job was to plant the guns inside the CPU of the computer so that when the armed robbers came in, they would be able to enter as normal customers. “The robbers planned to rob after closing hours when customers were no longer allowed access into the banking hall.
The commander, MOPOL 2, was able to get wind of the plan and led his team to the bank.
