New Electricity Tariff to Take Effect in June 2012
The 36 state governors have given their backing to the Nigerian Energy Regulatory Commission to increase electricity tariff. This decision was taken yesterday at the meeting of the National Economic Council at the Presidential Villa in Abuja.
The council, chaired by Vice President Namadi Sambo includes the 36 state governors, Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria, ministers of Finance, National Planning and Justice.
Liyel Imoke, Governor of Cross Rivers state while briefing state house correspondents after the meeting said the governors decided to back the planned tariff increase after listening to a presentation by the chairman of NERC, Dr. Sam Amadi. He said the joy in the new tariff plan was that there would be marginal or no increase in tariff for the poor who consume little quantity of power.
Personally I expected
to read: Epileptic electricity supply ceases once this tariff is increased and then
again he said in the tariff plan, there would be marginal or no increase in
tariff for the poor who consume little quantity of power…..nicely said but the
question is will there be consistency in power supply for this poor consumers?

He added that even with the increase, electricity tariff in Nigeria would be lower than in some neighbouring countries like Ghana and Chad.
He disclosed that N50bn had already been included in the 2012 budget to subsidise power for those who could not afford to pay for the next two years. Another major feature of the plan, according to him, is that there will be free full metering of all customers between 12 and 16 months to ensure that every customer is billed according to use.
The governor said the NERC had been charged to thoroughly monitor the exercise in order to ensure its efficiency so that Nigerians would not be paying for inefficiency.

Dangote to spend $7.5 billion on expansion
Billionaire industrialist, Aliko Dangote said on Thursday his conglomerate needed to spend $7.5 billion in the next four years to expand operations in a range of sectors.
“We are going into something big. We are going into mining, petrochemicals, cement and infrastructure. We need to spend $7.5 billion in the next four years, so definitely we need a lot of concentration,” he told a Reuters on the sidelines of the World Economic Forum in Addis Ababa.
Mr Dangote said this changing focus was one of the reasons he was looking for a partnership for his flour business, Dangote Flour Mills, with Tiger Brands, South Africa’s biggest consumer foods maker.
“We are actually trying to have a partnership between us and Tiger Brands,” he said. “We believe they are much better than us in terms of the retail business.
Xpressurselfshow, hopes this might get to the grass root when it happens
If only wishes were like horses…I really wish corruption would curb down and the government focus also on other sectors of the economy especially agriculture to encourage many investors. And I bet you, competition will spring up like fountains of water and wealth of the nation will be evenly distributed……..This my desire for the nation….my peeps do you think it can come to pass SOON?

“We are actually trying to have a partnership between us and Tiger Brands,” he said. “We believe they are much better than us in terms of the retail business.” Banking and company sources told Reuters that Tiger Brands was bidding for an 80 percent stake in Dangote Flour Mills, which makes pasta and flour in Africa’s most populous country.
Buying all or part of Dangote Flour Mills would give the maker of bread, breakfast cereal and energy drinks a substantial presence in the Nigerian food market. Dangote said a deal was about partnership, not offloading assets. “We are not selling.
If it was to raise money, we would have … sold the whole business to them. But no. What we are trying to do is actually to have them so that we can now enjoy the downstream of the business,” he said. Dangote said he hoped to list his $11 billion cement company on the London stock exchange by the third quarter of 2013.
Dangote Cement trades on the Nigerian stock exchange and is West Africa’s largest listed company. Nigeria’s population of more than 160 million is a massive potential retail market.

Is this what people mean when they say beauty is in the eyes of the beholder? Personally black is beautiful any day, any time especially if you were born dark.

Christian parent gives birth to a baby boy holding mini Quran in his hand
This baby boy was delivered at a white garment church in Mushin, while some dispute the claim, others say it is possible. A large crowd gathered at 1, Sonde Street, Ijeshatedo, Lagos home of the boy’s parents yesterday, as news of the birth spread rapidly. The baby mother, Mrs. Kikelomo Ilori, 32, a Cosmetologist by profession told reporters she delivered him on Monday after she had carried the pregnancy for about 10 months.
According to her“When I refused to abort the pregnancy, he deserted me, saying ‘that is your own problem, when my baby was delivered holding a Quran in his hand, the nurse said the Quran should be thrown away. But I insisted my mother must see it before any action could be taken,” Kikelomo, who is a Christian"

Sources had it that, Senior Rev. Victoria Yetunde Dada said during the pregnancy, Kikelomo was always coming to her for prayers and counselling. “I advised her not to abort the pregnancy because she might die in the process.
Again, I told her the foetus was sent by God and will be great,” Apostle Mother Dada told our correspondent. Controversy has continued to trail the seemingly spurious claim.
According to Medical Director of Bodet Hospital, Ikeja, Lagos, Dr. Bode Tawak said scientifically, it was not possible for a baby to be born holding a Quran. She says:“How big is the baby’s hand to hold the Quran? How big is the Quran? How did the Quran get into her mother’s womb? I don’t know how a Quran can get into a womb.
But there are things you can’t explain,” Dr. Tawak responded. He said while the incident cannot be explained medically, in Nigeria many mysterious things happen.
A Kaduna-based medical practitioner, Dr. Munir Yusuf said from a medical point of view, it was not possible, but added that depending on the size of the Quran, it was possible metaphysically. He explained that if the Quran is small enough to pass through the diameter of the vagina, with the child, it is possible.
In the same vein, a herbal medicine practitioner, Chief Dr. Bola Adegunloye believes nothing is impossible, but said too much importance must not be placed on the incident.
Hmmm!what's your thought on this
