A bomb explosion at a predominantly Christian quarters of Sabon Gari area of Kano municipality Sunday evening triggered pandemonium among residents and unsettled nightlife.
An eyewitness said the incident occurred at New Road axis of the city at about 7.15pm which caused minimal damage to a CRV Honda car parked at the scene

The eyewitness told Vanguard that another explosion was heard shortly after two men alighted from a commercial motorbike, walked through the spot and within three minutes a low calibre IED exploded.

He revealed that the police has increased its patrol in the city and advised citizens to go about their legitimate businesses without fear of molestation.

and forth policies that in end they can’t see the benefit just more pain and
suffering….. What were the promises that were made, at the end of April this
year? My sentiment exactly. Ha! Complete removal of fuel subsidy?
Mr Sanusi, a former banker who specialized in risk management and who is allied with Finance Minister Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala in the push for reforms, is pushing for the complete removal of the system of subsidizing fuel.The government tried to scrap the subsidies but backtracked after widespread protests earlier this year and partially reinstated them.
The CBN governor said the government should spend no more than the N880 billion for subsidies in 2012 earmarked in the budget signed by Nigerian President, Goodluck Jonathan on Friday. “I would simply like to see that the government does not pay a penny more than that, no matter what happens,” he said. Mr Sanusi also said that a sharp fall in oil prices could spell big trouble for Nigeria. “There will be a very bad day and a lot of gnashing of teeth if the oil price crashes and we haven’t saved a thing,” he said.
According to the CBN governor, though Nigeria is one of the world’s fastest-growing economies – gross domestic producer expanded by more than 7 per cent last year – and foreign investors have poured money into its financial markets to take advantage of high interest rates, it remains dependent on oil production which accounts for about 80 per cent of government revenues. He is a leading advocate for an overhaul of Nigeria’s economy to make it less exposed to fluctuations in oil prices, a campaign which has drawn opposition from the country’s powerful state governors. They fear reforms such as creating a sovereign wealth fund could prevent them from dipping into Nigeria’s windfall oil revenues.
Mr Sanusi noted recent discussions between the United States and other industrialized nations about the possible release of strategic petroleum reserves, and signs that producer countries such as Saudi Arabia might increase output to help bring down oil prices. “Our major concern is a major decline in the price of oil or (domestic) output would lead to a massive depreciation of the currency, a collapse in reserves and a huge growth in deficits and some of the states outside of the oil-producing region might find actually themselves in a situation where are not able to pay salaries,” he said. “I am trained to think in terms of ‘what if’ and that’s the mindset I bring to my job.
What happens if oil prices go to $50 a barrel? It’s happened before.” Asked how low oil prices would need to fall before they pose a risk to Nigeria, Mr Sanusi said a decline to around $85 or $90 a barrel – from around $120 now – could lead to a shortfall in projected revenues and higher budget deficits, if Nigeria’s oil output does not increase.

NYSC to Relocate Corps Members in Kaduna & Kano States
As a result of the recent bombings in Kaduna and Kano states, the National Youth Service Corps may relocate corps members from the states for security reasons.
Don’t you think the relocation should be in
all northern states?
The Deputy Director, Public Relations of the NYSC, Mr. Peter Atilola, told SUNDAY PUNCH that though there was currently no plan to withdraw corps members en masse from the two states, corps members serving in those states could apply individually to be relocated on the grounds of worsened security situation.
“For now, there is no plan for relocation of corps members from Kaduna and Kano states, but if any corps member feels he or she is not safe in these places, he or she can apply and would be relocated,” he said. It would be recalled that the Minister of Youth Development, Bolaji Abdullahi, had ordered NYSC not to post corps members to Borno and Yobe states late last year when there were frequent bombings and gun attacks by suspected members of the Boko Haram sect, resulting in the death of hundreds of people.
The corps members who were initially posted to the states were directed to observe their orientation exercise in Benue and Nassarawa states, and were reposted to all states of the federation, except for Borno and Yobe States. With some deadly bomb attacks in the past few months including Easter bomb attack which killed about 40 people, the security situation has drastically worsened in Kaduna and Kano states, resulting in some residents relocating to other parts of the country they considered safer.
The Special Adviser to the minister, Mr. Julius Ogunro, told SUNDAY PUNCH that the policy of the Ministry for Youth Development on the security of corps members remained that corps members would not be posted to any part of the country where their security could not be guaranteed. But while Kaduna and Kano are the states termed as ‘insecure’ for now, who knows which will be next?
The move by NYSC to grant relocation to corps members who apply is commended, however, more needs to be done to protect the lives of our youths. It wouldn’t be too far-fetched to say that there should be a review of the NYSC Act to protect the interests of corps members not only in terms of their security but also its benefits and widely reported difficulties they pass through during their service year.

published earlier yesterday ,the Minister said that he is preparing a memo for
the Federal Executive Council, which will stop public officers from wasting
public funds on foreign medical trips.
The only exception, according to him, will be a situation where the capacity to handle such a medical problem does not exist in Nigeria.
He added that he was preparing a memo which will soon be presented to the council to stop public officers from foreign medical treatment and that if the public officer insists that he doesn’t want treatment in Nigeria, he will not be permitted to use public funds for that so long as it can be done in Nigeria.
I think there are more important issues to be dealt with
than this: like dealing with issues why Doctors in Lagos are on strike and providing
better quality health care. My peeps don’t you agree?

person might end up dead or blind like Tina Nash,whose eyes were gouged out by her lover.
A thug has admitted blinding his lover in a sickening
12-hour attack. Mother-of-two Tina Nash, 31, had her eyes gouged out and was
brutally beaten in the assault. Tina Nash was also left with a broken nose and
jaw in an attack described as 'the most harrowing' police had seen. The 32-year-old
had suffered abuse at Shane Jenkin's hands before but had helped him get out of
jail. She said she had thought she could change Jenkin’s violent behaviour but
warned other victims of domestic violence to get out ‘before it is too late’.
She added: ‘It’s not going to get better, it’s going to get worse.’
He(the lover) has pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm
with intent. Originally charged with attempted murder, he was remanded in
custody and will be sentenced next month.

Fair enough, the governor has spoken, but will this speech prevent horrendous act from happening again when next the first lady visits?
When the first lady came into Lagos on Thursday, it brought Lagos to
standstill and this was what the Lagos state Governor said about it on Friday
April 13th.
It is particularly worrisome that this is not an elected
person. I think we all must check how security agencies use the movement of
high officers, especially VIPs, to disrupt citizens and taxpayers, whose money
were used to fuel all the vehicles and all the apparatus that we used to block
the roads against them.
It is an issue that calls for greater sensitivity. I
understand the need to protect the VIPs, but it must be done in a way that it
does not inconvenience anybody.
It should not get to the level that we close the roads in
the state because VIPs want to pass.
If they let us know earlier, traffic can be managed and
citizens here respect their leaders and they will gladly allow them to go. I
don’t think they deserve to be kept on the road in a standstill for five
hours.”

Piermario Morosini- Italian Footballer dies after collapsing on the pitch
Four weeks after Bolton's Fabrice Muamba improbably survived a cardiac arrest on the pitch during an FA Cup match and now this one?
A similar scenario has played out in Italy -- but this time without the happy ending. Livorno midfielder Piermario Morosini collapsed on the pitch after suffering a cardiac arrest in the 31st minute of a Serie B match against Pescara (as with the Muamba incident, we will not be showing video of this).
Medical workers attempted to resuscitate the 25-year-old on the pitch, but according to the AP, a cardiologist at the hospital to which Morosini was taken reported that he was dead upon arrival and never regained consciousness. The match was abandoned as players left the pitch in tears. A defibrillator was used on Morosini on the pitch, but the ambulance was held up by a police car blocking its path.
From the AP: ''He looked at me in the eyes when he was taken into the ambulance,'' Pescara's general manager, Danilo Iannascoli, told Sky Italia. ''We are living through a drama.'' Italian media reports said a car belonging to traffic police blocked the ambulance's way into the stadium and a window had to be broken so the car could be moved.
''I don't know if the ambulance was late, but I know that the entrance onto the pitch was blocked by a vehicle,'' Iannascoli said. ''Morosini collapsed, he tried to get back up but then collapsed again.'' Pescara president Daniele Sebastiani said that Morosini suffered "three cardiac arrests in quick succession." Morosini repeatedly tried to get back up after his initial fall, while his teammates shouted at the referee -- who had his back to Morosini -- to have play stopped.
Morosini, a former Italian youth national team player, was on loan at Livorno from Serie A side Udinese. The Serie A club informed Italian football's governing body (the FGIC) that they would not be able to play their scheduled match against Inter on Saturday evening after such a devastating shock and all Italian matches across all divisions scheduled for this weekend were suspended a short time later.

A woman’s headless body found in Abuja- Ritual Scare in Abuja

reaction if you found a woman headless in an express way?
The lifeless body of
a middle age woman was found along Katampe-Kubwa Express way at about 7.30 in
the morning, yesterday.
The corpse was headless, while the private parts were severed which prompted many onlookers to suspect that it was an act of ritual killings.
One of the onlookers who arrived the scene earlier described the development as worrisome. “I was headed to town when I observed that a sudden traffic was building up along the lane I was driving on. I then saw policemen and other people crossing to the middle of the road, where concrete slab demarcates the express lanes.
On getting there, I saw a lifeless body of presumably a middle age lady, I said presumably because without the head, I cannot say how old she might be. A lot of people suspect it to be beyond the operation of robbers or ‘one chance’, because they cut-off her head and private part. Robbers and ‘one chance’ hardly go that gruesome.’’
One of the police officers at the scene who pleaded not to be name because he was not authorize to speak said they were called upon by some good Samaritans whom were among the first few persons to arrive the scene. He however said investigation has commenced at the scene and would continue from there. When asked if they have any suspicion of who the killers are, he said “This is a ritual killing from all indication and base on my experience on the job. However as I said investigation just started, anything can still come out.”
The scene caused a slight traffic hold-up along that part of the express as motorists parked indiscriminately to see what the matter was. The Federal Capital Territory Command Police Public Relation Officer, Jimoh Moshood also confirmed that a mutilated corpse of a woman was found along a road in Katampe. He said forensic experts are carrying out investigation to know the cause of death. The Commissioner of Police in-charge of FCT, Aderele Shinaba has directed the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) to take charge of the investigation. No arrest has been made in connection with the incident.
