Three Policemen arrested over traffic law violation in Lagos

Policemen violating traffic regulations are regular occurrence on most roads in Nigeria is no news but I was particularly impressed on this report;

They policemen have been arrested by the Lagos State Government for driving in the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) dedicated lane, thus violating the state traffic law and subsequently beating up officials of the state Traffic Management Authority, who accosted them.
LASTMA General Manager, Mr. Babatunde Edu, yesterday informed the press of the incident which had occurred on Monday in the Anthony area of the busy Ikorodu Road.

Their vehicle, an escort van, which belongs to Access Bank and has since been impounded, disregarded warnings from LASTMA officials and took the BRT lane.

The policemen had descended on the LASTMA officials who attempted to redirect them, injuring one in the process but quick action from a LASTMA Monitoring Team and other policemen saved the traffic officials.
In the process, the driver of the van escaped but the three police officers were apprehended. According to Mr Edu, “Using the BRT lane is against the law and beating LASTMA men is unacceptable.
“The three policemen in the van were arrested and handed over to appropriate authority. “The van was not impounded at the scene, we wrote the bank, which later released it to us. The driver of the vehicle is still at large.”
